Winter Rim Size

Have a 2007 Limited running OEM 18" wheels. I was thinking of buying a set of 17' rims for winter ( have a set of 17" snows for my 2004 SE ) and was wondering if you guys think these would work. They are obviously 1" wider than the stock wheel and have a slightly different offset. I'm not sure about the backspacing. Also not sure about the load rating on the wheels but I have seen them running around on some other SUVs and pick-ups. I'll be putting 265/65R17 snows on.

No they are 17x 8.5", wider than stock. I think you are looking at the bolt pattern. There are 5 bolt, 6 bolt, and 8 bolt models. I was looking at the middle 6 bolt/139.7 model, which should fit. The offset put the wheel 8mm closer to the suspension but the outside edge of the rim would sit out farther @ 18 mm, or so my offset calculator says. I also have a potential lead on an oem take-off set of FJ 17" wheels, which I think would work even better. Only problem is they will be a bit more $$$. Good thing about the FJ wheels however is that the offset is only 15mm I think with @ 4.3"-4.5 inch backspacing which will put the wheels farther from the suspension and also have them stick out a bit more than stock. If I can do deal on the FJ wheels I think I'll go for them instead.

The FJC wheels are a known quantity, that's for sure. Don't overlook 1st gen Tundra/Sequoia rims either.

Why not 265/70/17's? Often times they are cheaper. The tread is usually a hair narrower and they offer a bit more ground clearance. All those things are good ina snow tire...

They are 17x8.5 with 25mm offset. That equates to 5.75" backspace. What also is unknown is the center bore, will it fit a toyota or is it just designed to fit GM full size trucks.

OEM wheels are 7.5" wide with 30mm offset.

The difference ends up being 9mm less clearance for the tire. You may experience some rubbing at lock or when turning and compressing, but its too close to call. I'd look at other wheel options.

Thanks Rook, that's the answer I was looking for. I was worried when my calculator said I was losing @8mm of clearance. Do you think I should go with the FJ rims? I know you have experience with them. My 4R is bone stock suspension and the snows are 265/65R17.

CJ3Flyr I already had the snows from my SE and they've got lots of life in them yet so I didn't want to shell out more $ for a different size snow tire right now. As it is the snows when mounted seem to be a taller tire than OEM, even in the stock size. Will likely switch over to 265/70/17 when these ones are done.
