winter tire pressure

I've read through many articles on air pressure in winter tires. Some say underinflate, some say overinflate, most say to stay within car manufacturer guidelines. So...What pressures are you guys running in your T4Rs with winter tires? I have hakkapeliittas and I run 38psi, the max for the tire is 51psi. Is 38 too high?

That sounds good to me. Higher pressures afford more resistance to hydroplane, the reduce the contact patch and raise the psi a bit allowing the tire to 'dig' to a hard surface. Low pressures are applicable when flotation is desired. Off roading in the snow, very deep snow (more than 12" or so) etc. The zero-30mph may be a liitle better with low pressure in very deep snow. It's pretty normal stuff, slow and deep = soft tires.

What size and load range are the Hakka's? 38-40 sounds just right for daily driving to me.

I got Yok's Geolander, the max is 51psi and i have 45 on them. It hasn't snowed here in CO yet, i can't wait so i can test drive them.
