Wiper Blade Question

I searched on the site but didn't find the answers I was looking for. I took my 4Runner in to the dealer today to get a oil change and to get a new rear wiper blade since I can not find one anywhere. They had them and it was only 4 bucks but then the service guy asked me if I needed two for the front and I said no, that I had already gotten two at Advanced Auto and he told me that I should not of never removed the original blades off and should of just come to the dealer for blade refiles. He said that Toyota designed the wipers so that you are never supposed to replace the entire wiper arm and that they are 50 bucks to replace. I tossed the original wiper arms in the trash two months ago when I got the new ones. Is this all really a big deal or no? The service guy made me feel dumb for not going to the dealer just to get stupid wiper blades.

The service guy is correct.

With my old 2001 Honda Accord & my friend's 1995 Lexus SC300...we throw away the OEM wiper arm.

The Secondary wiper arms were crappy compare to OEM.

So I went to buy OEM wiper refills & tried to install them, but they didn't fit, because I had the Secondary wiper arm.

After that time...I just stick w/ OEM. They wipe better & I'm at the 2nd year for my 4Runner & it's time to replace them.

PS: Don't bother w/ the Bosch Icons...they look nice, but they don't touch the top of the windshield compare to the OEM.

I say it's not a big deal but you can get new wiper BLADES from the Partznet for $18 and the refills for them later on are ~$4 if it will make you feel better. :)

Don't buy a new wiper ARM though, they are ~$40-50 a piece and you still have those attached to your 4R.

*prices quoted are for a 2004 so YMMV.
