Wiper deicer isn't working???

Alight, last year I had the front window swapped out for another factory window, with deicer strips on the bottom. However, I am not sure if the deicer for the wiper blades is working. It doesn't appear to be. So, my question is, in case he didn't plug it in, does it plug into a harness or does it simply sit on contacts? If it is a harness, is the plug inside of the cowl area?

At least from the drawing in the repair manual, it looks like the harness is on the passenger side. See below.

I turned mine on over Thanksgiving in Colorado. Only 1 jet would work, driver wasn't. Was it heating but just not good enough, not sure but probably.

it only heats the wiper blades by heating the portion of the windshield where they sit. has nothing to do with the washed fluid nozzles

And creating a nice gradient of hot and cold where things expand unevenly.

Chips love to turn to cracks when they are being heated.

I've watched this happen to like 6 windshields on my 4Runner now.

All of my windshields have started to crack when I've run the deicer or put hot air on them (or both). That's kind of how it works.

There's the slow crack you watch grow across the windshield, then there's the one that just pops up suddenly.

I have NEVER had a crack propagate in the summer or on a warm winter day.

That is the nature of a cracked windshield in the cold months. Just using the window defroster will cause that. It isn't inherent to the wiper defroster only. If you get a small crack, get it repaired. I have small cracks and spiderwebs on my windshield right now that are tiny and we're repaired and warranteed for free with insurance. So far non of those have cracked. I had to replace the original window because of a random 30/30 round that popped into it from somewhere in my vacinity during hunting season last year. That is another story..LOL

Move to Colorado. There's no amount of chip repair you can do driving after a snow event when they literally dump half an inch of gravel on the highway. Everyone has a broken windshield here. Driving to work today I counted at least 5 rock strikes to my windshield on a 20 minute drive.
