Wire run from hitch to engine compartment

Hey all,

I have done some searching, but cannot find an answer to this pretty simple question: what's the best way to run a power wire from my hitch (where I have some small backup lights installed) to my aux fuse box on passenger side engine compartment? It will be switched, so I need to get up front with it. If I follow the hitch power line, does it go inside the vehicle, or does it run to the front on the outside (in frame or whatever). I have seen references to drilling access into the rear at the tail light, but don't want to do this if I don't have to.

There are some rubber gaskets in the rear under the tail lights that you can penetrate to get into the cab without drilling. I ran my radio antenna that way.

On the other hand, I ran my aftermarket backup camera and rear bumper camp lights entirely outside, carefully protecting the wires and running them along other stock wiring.

Out of laziness, I fed it behind the wheel well shielding to get to the engine compartment. Just be careful you are well out of the way of any moving parts & heat sources (and secure them so they don't cause problems).
