Wireless Remote and Back Window

The owners manual for my 4Runner says that "the back window opening program by wireless remote can be changed or disabled."
"For details contact you Toyota dealer."

Has anyone had their remote reprogrammed to make it more difficult to accidently open the back window?
Does anyone know what programming options are available besides just disableing it?

BTW, I have contacted my Dealer but have not gotten an answer yet.
I suspect they will suggest I bring my 4Runner in so they can hook it up to their equipment then tell my programming options.

i would be interested in knowing what can be changed, right now it only goes down, i want it to go up too.....he he

I just took a quick look at that thread.... Does the rear window stop closing if something is in its path? I mean, the dash-mounted switch has an auto-up feature, so the window should be anti-pinch, right?

I think we can find a way to make the remote signal the auto-up switch....
 
That would be nice!! Especially here in AZ where I roll down the window in the summer before I get in. I'd like to be able to roll it back up if I change my mind.
 
I stopped by my Toyota dealer on 12/31/04. The service team leader and two techs spent about 30 minutes trying to find how to disable/re-program the remote's back window button but were unsuccessful.

The Toyota 800# support line that the Techs can call is closed for the holidays this week. They will be calling support line next week.
Once I get some answers I will post them.
 
I'm having a remote start installed on my 4runner. I'm not having toyota do it, but a company called Sterio West. They installed an XM radio in my car a few months ago.

I asked about the back liftgate and they said they could program a remote to give me all the features of my Toyota remote, plus a remote start, and allow me to raise the back liftgate. The power "up" liftgate feature would cost an extra hundred.

Hope this helps. I'm going to get it installed in the next week, so I'll write another post and tell you if the guy new what he was talking about or was full of it.

What do you think about making the rear window go UP with the key fob?

I was thinking of making that my next little project....
 
How do you want that to work? There's only one window button. When should it switch functions and become an UP button instead of a DOWN button?

Also, do you know if the rear window controller has a signal to indicate that the window is all the way up? I guess maybe it has to (or something does) because IIRC, the wiper mechanism is disabled if the window isn't all the way up.

We probably should start a new thread for this discussion.

If the widow is up, then the button on the remote will function as a "down" button. Of course the opposite is true also... if the window is already down, the button on the remote will act as an "up" button. I seems doable to me.... what do you think?

Yes, it definitely does. Like you said, the rear wiper/washer do not function with the window in the down position.

I was thinking it could be tied into the dash-mounted window switch, which already acts as an auto-up and auto-down switch for the rear window.

There are a couple of ways you might go about doing this but I'm not sure any of them is going to be simple. Moreover, I'm even less certain that any of them would guarantee safe operation. You don't want that window closing on your kids or pet! At a minimum you'd want to make sure that the safety auto-reverse feature still works under ALL possible input conditions.
 
I actually asked the dealer about this when I bought my 4R and the reason the rear window only goes down on the keyfob and not up is for child safety reasons. It was something about not wanting to jam your 3 y/o's head between the glass and window being a potential lawsuit or something when you leave him or her in the car while you go to the mall for 4 hours. Sounds to me they're placating the population that isn't smart enough to have kids period.
 
How about click-click-hold the window button for the window to go up?
If you have children, what are they doing back there anyway. It is not a fort... And if you think it is, then this feature is not for you. Or if you have kids, then maybe this feature is not a good idea.

Some folks have a 4R and have no kids. There is little that i would want changed on my 4R, but this is one feature i'd like to have/pay for.

Think of it this way. If there exists 2 key fobs prior to buying to 4R. The salesman asks you if you have kids or not. He explains that if yes, then keyfob A(no rollie upppie). If no, keyfob B(rollie uppie). As a parent, which one would you pick?

Seems like a lame excuse to me by Toyota. This is precisely why some of these features are programable by the user/tech. If, as a parent, you can't figure out what you can handle, risk wise(uppie or no uppie), then God help you.
I know this is all because the US is such a litigtious country...

The kids could be in the back if you have the third-row seat. But, I don't think it is the kid thing for two reasons. One, there is an auto-up on the dash.......why is the dash so much safer? And two, the RX330 can have the whole damn tailgate close by the remote. Yesterday, I saw a guy close it and his pugs were even trained to stay back from it.
