Wiring a GM compass/temp mirror to a 3rd gen?

Still seeking a solution for my temp display dilemma.

I've noticed on eBay there are a lot of GM rear view mirrors with the compass/temp display. Of course, they have the OnStar buttons as well. Just wondering if anyone has adapted one of these to a 3rd gen. Prices are pretty good from what I've seen ($<50) so that definitely beats getting a $120 brand new one.

I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work, but I'd be interested in knowing if anyone here has tried it.

If not, maybe I'll be the guinea pig and post my results up here!

It'll work. You would just need to figure out wiring for it. All those mirrors are generic not vehicle model specific!

All those rear view mirrors are made by Mito corporation with a mirror name of Gentex..

I have not tried the GM mirror you have but you should not have too much of a problem setting it up once you sort out the wires as cfrank pointed out.
I am doing something similar,just got a mirror from a Lexus Rx with the compass in it and had to figure out which wires did what but am about ready to install it.It also has the garage door buttons but I am not bothering with those.

You want one from an earlier year. Something like a 96 Tahoe. They will have the features without the onstar. Remember you need the temp sensor. The compass is built-in. I would go to a junk yard and you could probably get one really cheap. They are affixed to the windshield by a little mount you glue to the windshield.
