Wiring an aob switch to light with dash

I'm lost... need help wiring my AOB switches so that they light when the dash lights come on (when the ignition switch is on) and go off when the ignition is turned off. I don't care if they dim.

I've been using the switches just "on/off" to operate the relays. They are wired to operate without the ignition turned on. It would be nice to see the switch in the dark and to have the lower red "on" light lit when the aux lights are turned on.

I connected the black switch wire to a chassis ground and the upper led came on...the key was off, so, the upper LED would be on "full-time". Not good for the battery. I disconnected the black / ground and have returned to an unlighted on/off switch.

I've seen posts that mention that the ground is used for dimming, and tapping into a green positive and a grey ground wire. Can anybody elaborate on these connections? Is the grey that is mentioned different from a body ground? Will it end the constant "on" that I got connecting the switch black to a body ground? Which stock switch are these green and grey wires attached to?

BTW I have a 2011 SR5.

OPPS, almost forgot,

...Because a few here (including myself) have experienced 'less than perfect results', I thought it might be a good idea to include some "ECU Network" precautions... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/192198-switch-not-switch.html ...to protect your investment!

Rigtec...Thanks for the info. I actually saw BARRYHIRAM's post while I was researching....I'm just nervous about getting the right green and grey wires. especially after reading the post about ECU precautions.

Surprisingly, I got a reply from AOB this evening, after sending my question about the top LED staying on all the time. (I say "surprisingly" because so many outfits don't respond at all...KC HiLites comes to mind!)

FOLLOW-UP: The AOB solution worked! Now the light only comes on when the switch is activated. I still have to find the right wire to hook into the dash lights. Maybe I'll get the multimeter out this afternoon.

I believe it was a green wire I tapped to get the switch to light up with the dash lights. The green for the wiper heater on the left of the steering wheel. It is put out in more detail on [MENTION=103267]Saker[/MENTION] build for his led light bar.

I just used a low profile fuse tap and tapped into the tail light fuse. You just pull the fuse, pop it in to the tap with another 10a and pop it back in, then crimp the wire to the switch.

This makes it so when your headlights are on, the switch is lit up. It will not dim with the dimmer wheel thing like this, however I didn't care about dimming it as I normally leave my dimmer all the way (not clicked up)
