Wont go into gear

So I started my truck to go to work this morning and it would not go into gear. If I try to put it in reverse the gears grind and it won't go into any of the other gears at all. Recently it has been slipping occasionally in first gear, the shifter would pop about halfway to neutral, but only in first. Ideas? I assume its probably the clutch but I haven't worked on a clutch or transmission before so I have no idea what to fix. I ideally need to have this fixed today or tomorrow...

you're describing 2 different problems.

it not going into gear, is the clutch not releasing. usually a bad/leaking clutch master or slave cylinder, or both. look under the dash for a leak, it will likely be obvious. also check the reservoir, its its low you have a leak.

the other, slipping in first? when a clutch gets warn, it will start slipping in a HIGH gear first. so say driving along at 35-40 in 4th gear, and stabbing the throttle. the engine revs, but the truck doesn't speed up.

can you describe the "slipping in first" with some more detail? what exactly is it doing, and what are you doing when it happens?

So it was physically moving the shifter out of position to about halfway between first and neutral. I could depress the clutch pedal, put it fully in neutral, then go back to first. This was accompanied by a sort of "chunk" sound

sounds like that is "transmission jumps out of gear" from the fsm, which then says the clutch pilot bearing is worn. I can deal with that for now though, I definitely need to figure out why it won't go into gear

So it looks like my clutch pedal bracket might have a crack along the top left corner. I heard replacing this could stop this problem but the bracket doesn't move at all when the clutch is depressed…seems like it should if this was the problem. Also my pedal has been squeaking for quite a while when I push it.

Fixed!

So i drained the brake fluid from the clutch hydraulics and refilled it, now that shit works like a dream! Wish I had tried that earlier. I guess if it happens again that probably means theres a leak somewhere that I didn't find before. Sittin on top of the world right now I thought I was gonna need a new clutch.
