I have an 88 runner 4cyl and when I bought it a week ago for 1500 it ran fine and dandy, but it started acting up. It just sputtered and died on me on day and the second day it did the same and won't stay on. Can't figure why it won't stay on? I turn it on and have to have my foot on the gas to keep it on, but when I do that it revs really weird it goes up and Down until I let my foot of the gas and the immediately it dies. I changed the spark plugs, spark wires, battery, air filter, distributor cap, and gas filter. Still does the same any suggestions?

Sounds like your intake tube between your Mass Air Flow Sensor and your Throttle Body has a hole in it or it's loose. Have somebody sit in the drivers seat. Then pull your air filter out and reach up inside your intake and you should feel a flapper door, have the person in the drivers seat turn the key to the run position, then take your finger and gently push open the flapper about a half inch or so, maybe a little more. Then have the person crank it and see if it fires up and runs. Regulate the flapper to keep it alive, and try to rev up the engine from under the hood, while regulating the flapper more with more throttle, or less with less throttle. If you can get it to run like this then you have a horrible vacuum leak or a clogged air filter. To check for small vacuum leaks spray a little WD-40 on your vacuum lines, and if it suddenly revs up, then you have found your leak. Good Luck, hope this helps.

Yeah I guess I am, I have always called it the Mass Airflow Sensor...
