Woo! Another Spacer Lift Question!

I tried searching and found 102394 threads about spacer lifts but I couldn't find one that answered my question. If I do the 2.5" Daystar lift or another spacer lift on my 02 2WD 4runner is it going to affect my ability to tow? Like if I tow say...a Civic (It's happened before lol) is it going to mess up the spacer lift or anything else from the added weight on the rear end? It barely sags now when towing and I don't want the bottom to drop out from doing it with a spacer lift.

Well first off, I want to commend you on your perseverance in reading all those 102394 threads! Very impressed :D

A spacer lift is not going to have any adverse effects on towing. Your hitch will sit a little higher, but so what.

About 3 years ago, I went with the Daystar 2.5" kit on my 02 Runner. Initially, things went well and the spacer lift worked great. Over time, however, the spacers caused my stock springs to sag. In the end, I was left with about 1-1.5" of lift front and back. The stock springs just aren't meant to be used with spacers.

In theory, the spacers don't hinder towing performance. But, they will create even more pressure on your springs, causing them to sag faster. I have since replaced my Daystar lift with Land Cruiser coils in the rear and Old Man Emu 882 springs in the front. I'm getting ~3.75" of lift in the rear and ~3" up front, which is perfect.

I wouldn't waste my money on spacers again. Do it right the first time and go with coils all around. The ride will be better and the lift will last much longer without sagging. Good luck!

Hah! Well I read about 15 of them and got tired of looking. :biggrin2:

Yeah I could care less that my hitch will be a little higher. That's what drop hitches are for. Thanks for the help! :bigok:

Well I do plan on doing a real lift later but for now I need to get it up in the air a little and don't have the money for the full lift. If I can make something happen with the other issue I am having without doing the lift immediately then I am going to just save up for a real lift. This is more of a worst case senario thing. Thanks for the imput though! :bigok:
