Good, next question. Should i engage it in motion or should i come to a complete stop, then put it into 4h with the diff locked?

you can use it any time

I used mine the other night with snow and ice on the road going about 25 mph. Use in 4H or 4L, only on slippery conditions (otherwise you will bind). When that diff is locked it's like the 4Runner has claws!! Nothing can stop this thing with the diff locked (except dry pavement going around a corner)

when it was locked, it seemed like I had equal power to all 4 wheels, regardless of slippage (granted I was the only one on the road). When it was unlocked, it seemed like VSC was braking to compensate for slippage which is safer with people on the road, but in my case it seemed to pull better with the diff locked. I thought locking the diff only disabled VSC. ATRAC should still be active right?

I didnt' even know that with the 4h, the vsc is still on. So, let me ask you guys this, the salesman at the stealership told me not to engage the 4h while in motion. Is he full of isht, or shoud i do that.

First snow with the new rig, so i want to do it right

Thanks yall

he is full of it...

The only time you shouldn't engage 4H from 2H is when you are traveling over 60 mph (62 mph to be exact). This could negatively affect the system, specifically the front hubs. Anything under that, you should be fine...

On a personal note... I don't engage the system any faster than 40 mph, because if I am going that fast, the extra grab from the front wheels will not affect my traction or control anyway...

Cool thanks for the help. So, i can turn on 4hi on the move. Thanks for the help. Man why is it that most people that go and buy cars know more about the cars than the salespeople.

Efing morons

I lock the center diff when going up steep hills in unplowed snow. The last time I left it on, the braking brought the vehicle to a crawl, and I almost did not make the hill. I'll countersteer my way out of drifting slides going up. I leave it on when on the level.
