I have a '95 Limited, and bought it for quite a bit more than you did! First car, got distracted by the awesome condition the body was in, as well as interior. Blew up the motor about a year later...boy, was THAT a tough lesson to swallow! :-( and by blew up, one of the pistons actually exploded, and have to be picked out of the rest of the parts piece by piece...good thing my friend was fixing it!
I have since replaced the motor, as well as numerous other parts. About to drop some serious cash getting the rest of it up to speed, and starting the mods I want.
As for the 4 wheel drive, check your vacuum hoses! My weren't hooked up correctly, so my 4 wheel drive wasn't engaging. Super easy fix, and didn't have a problem all last winter in the snow!
Good luck! I love mine, and so have the few I've let drive her. I think the money I'm spending will totally be worth it, and I'm betting yours will be, too.
