Would a 2007 4.7 engine fit in my 1996?

I have a 1996 4runner that has 230K miles, everything else is good but at first start up it runs rough then clears up, I have also starting to loose some coolant. I'm worried it could be the start of a head gasket issue or even a cracked head. Just for the fun I started looking for replacement motors and found a local 4.7 out of a 2007 4runner for $1K. Would that bolt right in or am I looking at some serious modifications?

Your gonna run into serious modifications like the tranny, driveshaft, and etc. All of that could end up to the cost of a 4th gen 4.7L V8 4Runner.

You'd be better off buying an entire wrecked truck with the 4.7 in it. You'll need a lot more than just the engine.

Read through singtoe's v8 swap. you'll find that pitbullrescuer is on the money.

I have emailed the owner of the motor to see if he still has the entire truck, if he does I may look to take this project on, if he just has the motor I will pass.
By the way I looked at the fellows link that made this swap, very impressive. That would be the ultimate 4wheeling machine.
