It wouldn't be pointless, but it would serve far less of a purpose for a 2WD 4Runner. Your gas mileage and power will be negatively effected.

It will still help you get a lot more places, but you won't be that much further ahead than you are now. Lifts and tires are always removable in the case you do find yourself wanting to switch to 4WD, so if you like it, do it!

IMO I'd rather go another direction with a different vehicle since having a 2wd 4Runner for me would be pointless and would rather have something more dedicated to the street. Adding a lift and bigger tires will decrease MPGs a bit so if I were you evaluate how you would use the vehicle on a daily basis and make the decision for your self.

I was going to do the same to my old 2WD 4Runner, had the parts ready to go, but a little over 6 months ago I decided to sell it and paid a little more for a 4WD. So happy I did.

Personally, I would do something along the lines of what Zachpins34 did... Not really worth doing on a 2WD, in my opinion... Upgrade and then do it!

Oh and i should add when i bought my runner it came with the entire lift installed. If it hadent i wouldent have added the tires and probobly wouldent have done so many mods

if for some reason you absolutely cannot trade/sell your truck for a 4x4 then i dont see any problem lifting your 2wd if that is the stance you want to go for. its your vehicle and as long as you are happy with it that is all that matters.

Do some ATs, It will make it look a lot better. Skip elaborate suspension and put that money towards a 4WD.

The real bottom line is question if you are truly happy with the vehicle as a starting point before you throw a ton of cash at it in mods. I started with a '97 4Runner I wasn't tatally thrilled with and I figured new suspension and tires would help but a year later I still sold it and bought my '99 and lost the money i put into the '97.

If you are unsure of your choice of 2wd then don't throw money into it.
