Would you buy another T4R?

Hi Everybody,

New to the forums here at T4R.org. However, I've been lurking around the site quite a bit lately, as I'm hoping to get an 05' V6 4WD T4R very soon to replace my F150.

Anyhow, as I've been lurking, I've noticed a few issues with the T4R............. like the sulfur issue, vibration/cyclonic sound, seat issues, and a few others.

Obviously, I understand that not "every" vehicle can be perfect. However, I've always been a big Toyota fan, and I've been accustomed to hearing pretty much nothing but praise about Toyota quality. Therefore, some of the things I've been reading have me a bit concerned.

So, I thought it might be interesting to find out if the vast majority would consider buying another T4R, and why........... in other words.............. convice me to get one!

I have a 2004 V6 SR5 and I have been very happy with it so far. I have about 18,000 trouble free miles on mine and it has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned (keeping my fingers crossed that this continues)... the only "problem" I have had with mine is a very slight creak from the seat. It only happens going around sharp corners at higher speeds so it is fairly rare for me... but that is the only flaw on the vehicle's otherwise stellar build quality.

Ergonomics could be improved (this is one area where Toyota could learn from Volkswagen) by lighting power window & mirror switches, moving the gas cap release handle to a better location, etc. and some ommissions like not providing heated mirrors unless you get the Limited model are unnecessary corner cutting.

The 4-Runners handling, performance, utility and even gas milage are just a few of the wonderful things that far outweigh any shortcomings for me. I look forward to driving it every day. Good luck with your purchase decision.

YES!!! I have 20k miles on mine with a supercharger for the last 15k. I would buy another one in a second. Considering all the recalls, maintenance issues, and just bad overall manufacturing of American cars; the 4runners small problems are nothing. Also remember most of the problems were from the first 4th gens that came of the line. So don't worry about the stuff you read here, just know that yotas are always consistenantly good.

Because of my runner I will probably end up buying a new 05 Tacoma 4x4 this time.

I have the 03' limited with 9600 miles and no problems..
I'd a 1985 toyota celica gts convertible and this was like a rock

My '04 4Runner is just fine...as was my old '96 4Runner.

i second that. actually, since we're pretending, id get a land cruiser for myself and then by my family all t4rs

no complaints so far. went in for my second oil change and everything is in tip top shape.

I've had mine for 9 months now, and just love it.

Mine just turned a year old on Monday. I have 11,500 miles on it and I have not had any major problems with it. The only annoying problem that I had was my sunroof had a rattle and the dealer ended up breaking it more. But other than that, it has been amazing!! I would buy another 4Runner in a heart beat. If I had as much money as Bill Gates, I would still drive a 4Runner I love it so. I am actually trying to convince some family members to go with a 4Runner.

I love it !!! I spent last 2 weekends detailing it. That has to mean something because I own it for over 2 months so there isn't much to detail but I do it anyway..
I have 7000 miles on it and no problems so far.....

I bought a Loaded 03 V8 Limited 4Runner and gave it to my brother, I intend to buy an 05 V8 Limited Loaded the 03 needs a friend, these trucks are awesome, considering the quality you get for the price, nothin but oil changes and a trip to the dealer to fix my squeaky seats but they should have completely eliminated that issue with 05 and it needed an alignment so keep an eye on your tires to make sure they wear even.

Right now the only thing I would want over a V8 4Runner would be a LandCruiser with the SC, then their is the added money for a Lexus

oh hell YES. I love 4runners, always have, always will. IMO, they are better than any american plated offering. better looking, better HP/TQ #s (in relation to engine size), better ergonomics and of course, much much better reliability.

I love my 4Runner, would never buy a different SUV, but the next vehicle I own will be a turbo, AWD car. Hopefully an Evo.

Only thing I regret about our 4runner is that we will be giving it back at the end of the lease. But then that means we get to shop for a new one to keep!

Personally, I would love the extra room of the Landcruiser/LX470 but I wouldn't get one until the next generation comes out. While we are fantisizing, I have rethunk this a tiny bit and I would get a Hilux instead of the 4runner. Seems like they get a few more bells and whistles and I like having something unique.

Even considering the few "early build" (ours was built 10/03) issues we've had to deal with, this is a fabulous truck. Ours just hit 36K miles, ~10,000 of which have involved towing my Porsche track car on an open trailer. No major problems whatsoever.

Toyota builds the highest-quality vehicles on the planet. Our current truck is our 4th Toyota since 1988, and none has had significant problems. Feed 'em gas and change the oil every 6K miles and they're happy.

Its early days for me but right now I would buy another one again. Its probably worth mentioning that despite all the early problems the 4th gen was the only body on frame SUV that was in Consumer Reports 2004 list of cars people most often said they would buy again.

I would not probably own two 4runners at the same time because what fun would that be... I want a 4-door Tundra... but if a meteor hit our 4runner I would replace it in a heartbeat.

My father-in-law drives a 2002 Mercedes S430, he constantly tries to find an excuse with his car so he can borrow my 4runner.
