Very clean and new looking inside and out. Checked the carfax and found out it has an accident reported.

Accident reported
Vehicle involved in a sideswipe collision
Involving right front impact
Involving front impact
Involving left front impact
Vehicle ran off road
Minor to moderate front end damage reported

Told the guy about it (he claimed he'd never seen the carfax before and dropped asking price from 6500 to 5000) he says it drives great and doesn't pull to either side under accelerating or braking and he can let go of the wheel and jam the brakes and it stays nice and straight.
Still though, sounds like a nasty scrape...

What do yall think? Also, what should I look/feel for when I drive it tomorrow?

Really depends on where in the country you are also. Rust drives the price down, where as a clean southwest truck fetches top dollar.

Depends on how much damage there has been and if everything was professionally repaired. We need pics!

I paid $5k for a '98 two years ago with almost the same mileage and previous damage like you described. I haven't had a single problem with it since...it was fixed at a reputable shop and they did a great job. If everything else is clean, I'd get it.

When did the accident happen? I wouldn't turn it down at the right price as long as it was repaired properly. Look at all the panel gaps to see if they are consistent.

Wreck was in 2009. There's a tiny bit of rust on some of the welds underneath but its pretty rust free besides that. The truck lived in Maryland and NC before it ended up here in south carolina.pics to follow

If it was a vehicle in the rust belt, then accidents are great, it means they have newer rust free panels on them, in the south they are less of an advantage. I would have to drive it myself to tell you whether or not to go forward with it, have a mechanic check it out and use common sense.

Seems ok

5k seems ok. Looks clean. Take it to a mechanic for a check up. Whenever I buy a used car I take it to a shop for a full check up. It is money well invested and mechanic will be able to tell you if frame is out of whack or any engine issues.

My .02 cents

Why is there a TAN leather door panel when the interior is GRAY cloth? Also, look at the messed up panel gaps underneath the headlight and corner lights. The front bumper is also missing the fender flare extension. Have it checked out really well.

Oh crap.. I didn't even notice that.. damn I thought I'd found a good one

Classy!! 5K isn't too bad. Here in Socal they all have 190K+ and they have all been hit anways...

Have you checked on the timing belt and water pump? If it hasn't been done recently you could use that as a further bargaining chip.

*Off Topic Alert*
My undercarriage rust looks very similar to the pics posted in this thread. Mainly on the welds, with a few spots of concern and some paint flake and rust on the rear axle. Think I should do anything to treat it or would I be fine just leaving it the way it is? It was originally in Illinois and Wisconsin, but is now in Alabama.

Yeah. Tell the buyer about the problems I noticed and mention the timing belt as well as why the undercarriage is so rusty for an SC truck. Either this guy is clueless or he is trying to scam you because that is not worth $6500, let alone the $5000 he went down to. Maybe $3500 is fair in my opinion, otherwise just walk.
