Some parts of Kansas City got hit with golf ball sized hail last night. Its possible that the 4runners got hit. If they got hit, the dealers will get it fixed and sell it at a discounted price. Would you purchase it?

No brainer. I would buy it WITH hail damage still present, assuming that the price was reduced appropriately. such damage is easy and not too expensive to fix.. and it is guaranteed to cause damage only on the exterior.

Yes, for sure. You should go get it with a good deal. Let's thinking about this from other side. You buy one without hail damage, how can you so sure about that? So, I would not give a chance to dealer to fool me. Just go get an 'damaged and fixed' one, with good price.

I think this was on Mythbusters. A vehicle that has golf ball like dimples will get better mileage than a normal flat sheet metal vehicle. So yea, a good deal and better mileage is a no brainer! :banana: HEHE

I would ask how the damage was repaired and would like to see a before photo. PDR (paintless dent repair) is fine on smaller dents - nickle or so. Quarter size is questionable depending on location, it could re-appear and paint could peel off later. From my own personal dent experience on my 2010 TE (baseball impact), the T4r sheet metal is pretty thin and pliable. Oddly enough, thicker metal takes more damage in a damaging hail storm than thinner metal. Thinner stuff will trampoline it back - to some extent, and will be easier to PDR without paint damage.
Do some research on the subject of PDR vs. conventional repair for hail. If it were damaged enough for conventional hammer-out/repaint, I would expect a MAJOR discount. It doesn't take much to total a vehicle when such a repair is warranted.

If they were repaired and discounted I would definitely jump on that. My sister had an Audi TT that got pelted pretty bad all over few years ago. Some dent guy came out and worked on it while she was at work and you would have never known it was ever damaged. My 4Runner got a couple of dents a couple of weeks ago in Pittsburgh by golf ball sized hail on the hood. It hailed here yesterday but they were just pea-sized and didn't do anything.

KC area hail

My 2007 was outside sunday night in South OPKS...golf ball size plus. Looked okay at night but in the morning it looked like a teenager with bad acne. The hood and roof aren't as worrisome as A-pillar damage, in my mind...dents in the rounded portion. State Farm is still trying to figure out what to do I think.

Heard about a neighborhood BMW where they plan to pull the body off to work on it...rumor.

We got a good hail storm last May. PDR worked miracles, you'd never know that the cars we had repaired were ever damaged in the first place. We had four or five temporary operations set up shop in town and stayed around for a few months doing (presumably) a lot of dealer work. I imagine a lot of people bought cars that were dinged by hail without even knowing it, and odds are they'll never know it happened in the first place.

I wouldn't buy something new that showed hail damage unless the discount was SIGNIFICANT. And I don't see dealers willing to give away money like that so they'll get everything fixed ASAP and I bet customers won't even get the chance to buy one before it gets fixed.

When I lived in Texas in the 90s a major hail storm came through and hit many new cars on the dealers lot. They had a hail sale to try to unload the cars without repairing them. They would only take about 1k off the price so it was not worth it. The cars were beat up pretty bad. I am sure they just turn it into insurance so it does not cost them anything.
