I'm having a dilemma guys and hopefully you can help. I currently I have a 03 galactic grey SR5 V8 4runner with 75,ooo miles. Yup,you read that right, 75k miles. I bought it from my dad who was the original owner. Once I bought my dad's 4th gen he bought a new 2015 5th gen barcelona red limited. He currently has a whopping 13k miles on his limited and wants to sell it to me for 31K.

1. Would you sell the low mile 4th gen V8 and buy his 5th gen almost new limited?

OR

2. Keep the 4th gen?

I'm posting this in the 5th gen forum too but I think I know what they're going to say. Thanks

Toyota builds 5th gens every day.

Which makes your V8 4th gen all the more cool.

Though you have both to test drive, which one do you enjoy driving more?

The real question is why is your dad selling his 4Runner left and right? LOL
 
V8 all the way! I drive one so I'm a bit biased but like someone else said there are plenty of 5th gens out there. And who knows what may come out in the future that you would want instead, save your money.
 
Keep your 4th Gen. First, for the reason I bought a 4th Gen myself: IMO it’s just a better looking vehicle. The 5th Gen’s boxy style and all its “aggressive” angles...yeah, no.

But more importantly, few things have more potential for straining or wrecking a relationship of any kind than a transaction gone bad. Buying something (or lending/borrowing money) from a family member, friend, or colleague is almost never a good idea. It’s worked out with the 4th Gen, best leave it at that.

And finally, doesn’t keeping $31K in your pocket (plus interest if you’ll be borrowing) have its own appeal?

I agree with this. V8 runners with low mileage, in great condition are definitely WAY harder to find than an average 5th gen, which you can get find anytime you want for the foreseeable future, especially in that price range. Unless he giving it to you super cheap, I’d be happy with what you have, and save the money for something better, unless after driving the 5th gen, you feel like it’s a better fit for what you like, or need.

As a 5th gen owner I say keep the 4th gen with the V8, personally I'm not a fan of the Limited trim. I'm sure its great for a daily driver but it has a lot of unnecessary plush IMO. if you can afford to do both great, otherwise your better off with the 4th gen especially considering your mileage.
 
I have both, well three actually, and love driving all of them. But IMHO, I would keep the V8 at all costs. 75k miles on a V8 is almost Unicorn status these days.
 
This is making me feel really good about my 07 with 78k. I'm about to do the timing belt for the first time and everything is squeeky clean all around. Trying to take care of it so it lasts a long time for the family.
But Biasedly I vote for V8 as well. It's just so smooth!

is this seriously a real question?? Buy the 5th gen all day! Speaking of that though, my 15 yr old is needing a vehicle soon. Tell ya what, buy the 5th gen, sale me the 75k miles 03. i'll give my son my 225k 04! Now thats a plan!

Please don't listen to this nonsense... Keep the 4th gen. Not only does it have a legendary V8, with a few tech upgrades the 4th gen interior is superior in every way to the 5th gen.
 
I would keep both, but I am also a Toyota Hoarder too, so take that for what it's worth.

When they stop making the 5th gens, everyone will go "why didn't I buy and store a 5th gen when they were available".

I don't think that will ever happen. Nothing special about the 5th gens with an almost identical 4.0 6cyl. With the exception of 2010, there was a 2.7l 4cyl auto option available but it is not so common. If anything that would be the "unicorn" and even then I doubt it.

The only thing Toyota has done with the 5th gens has offered a million different trim levels, all slightly different then the last, up selling their customers each year.
 
I changed my mind, 4th-gen V8s totally blow....I'll gladly take that POS off your hands

In my opinion, if its not a vvti v8 - its not really worth anything. There are dozens of the 03-04 v8 4runners for sale near me and nobody seems to want them. They just sit on lots forever collecting dust and nobody gives them a second look. Not only are they less power than the 05+, but the body style of the pre 05 is kind of cheap looking. Whenever you see someone looking for a v8 4runner, it is ALWAYS the 05+ models. This includes me, I completely ignored any 4runner earlier than 05 when I was looking for mine, almost like they did not exist at all.
