Wow! Expedition Overland

Oh man....saw a link to expedition overland episodes on YouTube. I’m hooked. Just finished watching season 2/Central America and just started Season 3/South America. Awesome convoy this season of Tacoma/4Runner and Land Cruiser.

Suddenly I have the urge to start building up my off road!

...Totally agree!....Ronny Dahl is down-to-earth...gives a LOT of really good info...is funny...has far better video production...and has NO ego...:thumb:

...the EO series have sadly started to feel a bit too corporate...But, a lot of guys like their stuff.....Different strokes....:shrug:

I enjoyed the first two seasons: Alaska and North America. Then, well, not so much.

North America was the best because it was just a few guys goofing off and exploring. Alaska was okay but you could already feel it getting away from their roots. Central America was awful. They did redeem themselves with the last season in South America though... it was better.

I actually used the NA and Alaska seasons to help prep for several trips, using their info on routes and such, and they turned out well for me.

Expedition Overland does an excellent job of showing how recreational off roading and camping is a very un-fun and dangerous task and should not be taken lightly.

Too much talking and not enough machine for my taste. It is reality show. I want gears, wheels, breakdowns and repairs up close and personal on video and not just to hear about it. My inner gearhead doesn't get these videos. Even if the expedition was to the moon it would look and sound about the same. Every one has their own thing and the show is great for most people.

I just enjoyed seeing the scenery and people of different countries. And was impressed how they navigated a foreign environment. I've got no complaints.

On the newer ones it definitely feels like they're just going throug the motions.... its just work now and that's how it feels. It looks like some of them just don't want to be there. Things seem too well planned out that it leaves out some of the adventure that you would experience.

I could deal with the higher level of production if the crew seemed more into it.

I get it. I’ve been in the promotions business for 22 years. But if I had some influence with them I’d tell them the “real viewer” insight and tone that down. As goofy as the production is sometimes, I enjoy the 4WD Action videos on YouTube. Tons of winching, far out locations, random recipe advice, the occasional broken axle or diff they need to repair.
