Wow, Gibson exhaust increased my MPG!

My V8 on-board gauge read a constant 18.7 and now that I installed the Gibson 618707 cat back system, I noticed the gauge creeping up slowly to a current 19.2! I hope it keeps going up! They advertised that there would be an increase but I didnt really believe it. I also love the new sound, not loud but a nice little grumble.

This is nothing to worry about, your lie-o-meter is just acting up. You just need to cure the excitement with some manual calculations. If you didn't manually calculate it before exhaust, you should compare to someone else's with similar driving styles and options as yours.

It's just the warmer air outside now that winter is moving out. It will drop again in the fall. Mine is showing 19.1 right now for same reason. Lol

Switching back off of winter blend fuel may have something to do with the mileage increase. I am in Iowa and notice a big drop in mpg every winter without any real change in driving habits.

you naysayers are really bumming me out. Come on, let me believe Im getting better mileage now after all, it was a CONSTANT reading for months and now it is STILL creeping up right after the install and BTW, the weather is still cold!

Believe what you want! After reading your first post I reset my lie-o-meter, installed my RCI skids and removed my roof rack. My mpg's were at 15.6 for months but now is at 18.3 mpg. Should I assume that adding 100lbs of steel under my truck and removing the rack gave me almost 3 mpgs more?

Quality of fuel whether it be.....winter or summer blend, chevron or no-name brand, lower or higher octane ratings *Likely* have more to do than the aftermarket equipment.

I wanted to believe that my K&N intake would give me higher MPG, but some how I cant' believe it does.

I do really want the Gibson exhaust, which version did you get????? Stainless, aluminized (spelling?), straight tip or out the side? Post pics.

I bought my truck with the Gibson and K&N already installed. Love the sound. I get around 20 with the cruise set at 60, 14 in the city though. The Gibsons are put together very well in my opinion, good rumble without being obnoxious.

Like the guy above said. Winter blend gas gets less mpg, welcome to the summer blend gas.

Winter mix starts phasing out in NH around April 15th. So your milage should increase slightly with the regular mix.

I got the stainless Gibson 618707 for 318.00 including shipping and had it installed along with Bilstein shocks. I'm liking my truck a lot better now! The exhaust comes out the back and includes a nice fat slanted tip! I would have preferred it to come out the side since I do use dump/ATV/boat trailers. I would recommend paying a little more for the stainless version rather than the aluminized. I'll see if I can get around to post some pictures this weekend.
