Was wondering it anyone in the area (OC), would be interested in meeting up, discussing our rigs and helping one another install stuff. I have a 1" leveling kit waiting to install. Hell, Ill even bring the pizza and beer.

Im in Trabuco Canyon, out by Coto. Moved here from Irvine myself. I was hoping to put up this lift myself with some help. Not really concerned with the price and all, just wanted to learn more and maybe make some friendships with local 4runner owners. Do you offroad much or is it just for looks?

If you guys have the time, I highly recommend that you do the install yourself instead of having someone do it.
The level of difficulty for the install is not that bad. A rookie with ZERO experience can get this done in 6-8 hours by following the directions supplied by the lift manufacturer. I have helped toy owners do these lift with ease. Most had literally no experience in such a task but all of them have been happy that they were able to accomplish the goal.
If you don't have tools, autozone rents em free w/ a cc deposit. Definitely worth every penny.
Things you'll need:
10,12,14,17,19,21mm socket and wrenches.
flat head/phillips screw driver (I think)
spring compressor
tie rod tool
some new cotter pins
Btw, you can get these tools from Sears (highly recommend you get the Craftman goodies for their awesome warranty policy). Everyone should at least have those basic tools with you at all times. Makes life easier when you want to do some basic maintenance.
As for the wrenchathon, I'd help you guys out as I'm in the Northern OC area (57/60) but my driveway is currently occupied w/ repairs I'm doing to my 4runner. No time and space so I won't be of any help. I'll check this thread to see the progress, if I have time I'll poke my head.

Thanks for the encouragement and tips. I must say Im quite overwhelmed with the idea yet I do look forward to learning more about my truck. One thing that makes me nervous is I have a 4 year old and not doing this thing the right way can jeapordize her safety. I guess Im a very cautious parent.

This is a great idea. I live in Orange County, CA also (Tustin). It will be nice to meet up with 4Runner owners and also the ones who enjoy working on their trucks. I do most of the basic maintenance on all my vehicles and have majority of the tools that are required. I have spring compressors also from my last job changing front and rear struts of my car.
I can surely give a helping hand and bring any tools that might be useful. If a date, time and place has been set, please let me know.

Trial ride follow up...
Was thinking after we got our rigs all set up and said our hello's, maybe we could set up a time to go have some local 4x4 fun. Im a novice big time but rearing to go have some fun.

yes it can be overwhelming but it's really not that bad. if you can change a flat tire, you can easily add another level of difficulty by changing your suspension. There is nothing wrong with being super cautious about doing anything to your vehicle (even if you don't have kids). Though I don't have kids I'm super cautious about everything I do. Doing it with other swill definitely make it easier on ya too.
On a side note, if you guys want to meet up with some other Toyota owners, UltimateYota.com is hosting an event next weekend in Pismo Beach (Oceano Dunes SVRA). If you have time, definitely drop by and say hello. You'll see a wide variety of Toyota's there (52 vehicles registered). It's a family based event filled with events for the kids too. Take a look at the following link for more info:

Stock vehicles including 2wd are highly recommended. This will be a great opportunity to meet and greet everyone and just mingle and learn to wheel in soft sand

I found this place for learning the basics of 4-wheeling I found from this forum. This is my first 4WD vehicle so I figured it will be fun to learn to do things the right way.

The cost from the web site for the Basic Clinic is $160 for one person with vehicle.
