Hey guys. So I finally got my 97 TLC rims and 33" Firestone Destination MT's installed. Right away, the truck now looks killer! (I had 31" Revo A/Ts before).
I really just want to do this brief write-up for people thinking about going this direction...as I didn't get many answers in my last post.
So anyways, currently my 4Runner has the OME 890/891 coil lift kit and that is it. I got the TLC rims from a site called finishlinewheels.com. The owners name is Danny and he was VERY helpful in getting my order through as fast as possible and answering all my questions. I HIGHLY reccommend his site to anyone wanting some refinished wheels (the wheels are in perfect shape too!). So I got the rims and, after reading tons of posts, ordered a set of Firestone Destination M/Ts in 305/70/16 (this size equals 33" tire). I had everything put on only a few days ago so I can't really report on wear, etc., but I can tell people what it takes to fit them. IF you ONLY have the OME or comprable lift, YOU WILL RUB A LOT w/ 305 series tires. The guy at the Firestone place didn't even want to pull the 4Runner out of the garage b/c he was scared he was going to tear off the front bumper. I took it home (right around the corner) and immediately started trimming...
Front issues: There is a lot of rubbing at even initial turn-in from the front bumper corner. I've removed the corner up until about an inch below the first snap-clip holding the fender flare on and now there is no rubbing. There is a pinch weld at the rear of the front tire that has to be beaten in, but its not that hard.
Rear issues: I had the JAOS rear mud flaps on, but had to take them off, as the rear tires were VERY close to rubbing on flat street driving. I have since removed the stock rear mudflaps altogether (will note why in a bit). I also had to beat the weld that goes along the inner fender edge of the fender flares.
Now here is the worst problem I have now: Under flex, the rear tires rub a TON on my rear bumper. I have removed the mud guards, etc. and there is still rubbing. The front issues have pretty much been cleared up, its the rear that is holding me back.
I am home for the holidays but when I get back to my place after New Year's, I will post pics of everything.
I guess my next plan of action is to get a 1" BL to help cure the rear rub. I don't need anything crazy as this is my DD, but I do like to wheel and right now I can't.....
Something to note: If you plan on getting the TLC rims, make sure you get lugs nuts to fit as well. The lug nuts to the 4Runner wheels do not fit in the TLC rims....
