WTB 1st gen 4runner around Kansas City

Hi I'm looking for a 1st gen in or around KC. I'd be willing to drive a bit out of town for the right truck. My lady and myself actually just drove out of state to look at an 88 but it was much too beaten down.
We're selling our two vehicles (2004 nissan frontier and a 94 Astro) in order to consolidate to one vehicle. We'd like a 1st gen 5spd 4cyl in good shape.
This summer brings a 7000 mile road trip up through Canada, Alaska and down the west coast so we're looking for a truck in mechanically solid shape and cosmetically good. Our plan is to find a truck for a fair price and put in some $$ and work to make sure she'll last another 100,000+

I am in the Fort Leonard Wood area, there is a 1st gen t4r in Dixon, it's in really great shape but they seem to want a little much for it. I will see if I can find the post for you, if this isn't too far! From my experience KC is about 4 hours from here.

Thanks for the heads up diffy! 4 hours isn't too far as long as I do my homework on that specific truck.

No problem! I got my 3rd gen in Rolla, took me a few months to find it but I'm extremely happy with it!
I do know there is a 1990 in Camdenton that isn't posted online anywhere. It's immaculate!!!!!! Not a spot of rust on it and the paint is even still shiny. If I remember correctly it had low miles too. But man they wanted $6500!!! That's crazy for a 1990!!!

Excellent! Yeah it may be awhile before we find the right one. We are set on finding a 1st gen so the 90 is a year too late
It's that top and roll bar (in addition to everything else that makes old toyotas great of course) !!

Got Info - Checking it out Sunday Morning early

Yo diffy (and anybody else who cares to chime in),

I'm making the 2.5 hour trek tomorrow morning to see this 84 in person. I'm gonna post the details that I received over the phone for anybody who wants to weigh in. I welcome all opinions positive or negative.

1984 4runner

nothing rusted through
rear fenders have been replaced with new metal
surface rust on the A pillar and by the gas lid
floor has been replaced with a fiberglass floor & no carpet
has been repainted within 1.5 years (i think that's the right time span)

has a salvage-title

current owner bought it with the sal. title and had the frame checked for straightness (is straight) before he bought it. front hood grill and quarter panel are replaced (before the paint job)
drives straight.

current owner noticed a shimmy around 55mph, had tires balanced and shimmy went away.

Rear is not sagging due to blocks under the rear w/ original leaf springs

has a webber carb apparently tuned and running well
A/C not working but "all there" needs charge?
heat works front and rear

oil pressure gauge not working

front seats have been replaced
interior is in "good" condition from what he says and what the photos indicate

headliner on removable top needs to be regaled in parts

dashboard has a crack

new windshield
rear window operates properly

new exhaust from the Y-pipe back

current owner has had it for 1.5 years and has been his daily driver, he's selling it to focus on building his old toyota land cruiser

new rubber around where cab connects to top

has electronic choke

some trouble starting in cold weather but has never not-started on him

new master cylinder and rear brakes have been serviced

owner has taken it on a few out of state trips, feels confident with the truck as-is to go on longer journeys

31" tires (would most likely replace with highway friendly tires for our alaska trip)

paint job looks nice but a good photo can make anything look nice

I've never owned anything carbureted but I hear they are easier to work on being less electronic and all. If you are carburetor savvy at all you should be just fine. and those 22r/re motors are both bulletproof lol.

Handled the 2.5hr. journey alright, about 18mpg.
We'll be amassing our list of upcoming repairs soon enough

dude! your in kc! ill be back in july, where are you located? there is a 1st gen that runs around riverside, he is a member on here. his is lifted and what not, just cant remember his name right now.
