WTB: 3rd Gen. Roof Rails!!

I posted in the classifieds section also. But thought I better get this posted here too.

I got the thumbs up from my wife to put a safari basket on the Runner (I threw some long story at here about how we couldn't fit the dogs and camping gear in the 4Runner...because the dogs would be cramped for a long drive to a camping spot).

Anyways, I need the roof rails. I would rather use them than go after the Yakima feet that mount into the doors.

If you have rails...or know where to get them. Please let me know!

the roof rails sound like an excellent item to pick up at your local junkyard. If you lack any near you - let me know I have a couple sources up here within a couple of blocks of me. I could not imagine these running any more than $30-that is until they know you need them....

I have tried calling all the junk yards in the Phoenix area....I don't think any of them even had a 3rd gen. 4Runner at all! If you find some up your way, I would be more than happy to pay you for your time if you can get them shipped down here to Phoenix!!!

I also have one lead I am chasing here. There is a guy I know (via a Nitro RC club I belong to) that works at a Lexus dealership in the parts department. Which means he has access to Toyota parts at employee pricing. I don't know what that will do to the noraml $240 price tag of the roof rack...but I am hoping for the best.

okay but you don't need the whole rack correct?

I am specifically looking just for the lengthwise rails that attach to the passenger and driver's sides of the roof right? They will screw or bolt down to the roof I am presuming....

Yes that's the most important piece. If I can get the whole thing with the cross bars and all I would probably do it. If I can only get the rails that's ok, I can buy after market attachments from Yakima or Thule to fit into those rails.

not willing to separate out

okay I have talked to 3 junk yards now and none of them are willing to remove the rack rails from their vehicles. Their argument is that when someone buys the vehicle "shell", the lack of roof rack rails could lead the potential buyer to go elsewhere for a better shell.

I am still digging for ya...

Tell them I will mail them the black covers that go over the holes! That is the angle I am taking. It seems that every 4Runner (or at least nearly every one), came with the holes drilled from the factory for a rack system. From there, they either got the rack, or they just got the black strips to cover the holes. I will gladly buy the rack, and replace it with the rail covers that I have to make the truck look stock again.

I am unable to entice any of them to separate out-no offense but the junkyards out here don't want anything to do with pulling small parts off the core of the body-not interested in the replacement strips, as they are left with a roof rack they can no longer mount and sell intact with the body.

okay scratch all of that I am headed to Irbis Off Road as they just called...we may be in luck

Hey Ron! Thanks for the effort man. I actually have good news. Over the last couple weeks I have been putting little fliers on the window of EVERY 3rd Gen. 4Runner I come across. The night before last my wife asked me if I wanted to go to the mall with her to pick something up...so I said yes. I dropped her off at the front door and told her to call me when she was done (not exactly what she had in mind when she invited me), but then I drove up and down EVERY row of parking spots at the mall and ended up finding about 25 4Runners.

I got the call yesterday afternoon, some guy said come on over and bring your $75 and it's yours.

So I got one yesterday!!!! Persistence and creativity paid off!
