Okay, a small update:
My mission to find a manual is slowly starting to irritate me. They are hard to find locally. As most of you know, i have a brand new supercharger, in the box, with original seals. My dads co-worker has a '99 auto 4wd with factory e-locker. It had 115k miles and has been very well maintained! I am very interested and he said my dad will have the first bite at it when he sells in. (within the next 3-4 weeks). As i stated above about the supercharger, i want to put it on my future 4runner. but putting it on an auto is kind of... not as fun. What i think i am going to do is take the next 3-4 weeks to look for a manual, and if i dont find anything, i will most likely end up buying the auto from my dads co-worker.
The car got egged and the owner didnt clean it off on time so apparently some of the yolk or some sh*t is stuck on the fender. Probably just take a little elbow grease and it will come off. The gold emblems i will plasti-dip the day i get it as well as remove the running boards! and while im at it, i will paint the cladding, flares, and front and rear bumper. I dont care for this color scheme.
Let me know what you guys think about this decision. MAYBE, you'll change my mind like James tried to. [MENTION=25058]ChildrenOfBodom[/MENTION]

If you want a manual then get a manual. You'll regret it and it's extremely hard to convert the limited to a manual if you decided that down the line. You already have a 4runner so just wait it out and save up. Plus painting the bumpers and cladding is a pain and not cheap if you go professional.

I'll second this and what COB said.
Automatics SUCK unless we're talking about Clownmeat and his paddle shifters.
Take your time and get a manual. Keep saving money and keep looking. Soon enough you'll find a manual and then you can come off-roading with COB and I and maybe [MENTION=81738]blizz86[/MENTION] can steal the 5th gen and come too.
Go get a manual 4x4!

Lol.. funny thread going on here. The search continues. Don't settle [MENTION=85535]TRDteen[/MENTION] , get what you want because you know something will pop up if you "settle for this auto". I would learn to drive standard before buying though, you might just hate it and just be infatuated with the thought of it. I sometimes make commutes from irvine to the west side of san fernando valley and get stuck in traffic and i know i wouldnt want to be sitting around constantly changing gears while im half asleep. But then again if you do enjoy standard it will become second nature and not a big deal.
Im content with mine.. sort of, unless an outrageous deal pops up because in a few years i will get the 5th gen
edit: My dad also brought up something along the lines of a graduation present + trading in my truck.. i might see a taco in the future..

If i had the budget i would get a '13 manual 4x4 taco. Those things are beautiful and great trucks! But maybe down the road, (after my new 3rd gen) i'll get an 02-04 taco. Those 3 years were great years for the Tacoma. especially the 4 door!

I wouldn't.
If budget truly wasn't an issue. I'd take the drivetrain out of an FJ (Supercharged 4.0 V6 with a 6 speed manual) and dump it in a 5th gen trail edition.
I'm not really a fan of Tacos. Personally, I have no purpose for a pick-up.

strap on a snug fit on the bed of the truck and its almost looks as cool as a 4runner haha.

The 05+ Taco's are the only way to go IMO. To me, the body styling is just so much sexier. I want a DC long bed and i dont think they have the 6 speed manual available for it. But im not positive.. i test drove the TRD sport edition a few months ago and man, toyota trucks are super smooth nowadays. Whenever i drive my truck after driving my dads, its a ridiculous change lol.

only thing about the new tacos are the bed is plastic and cant take much of a load, the guys i work with say. id go for the older ones.

My truck is still in pieces last time I heard. I'll probably call my mechanic today and get an update.

Dont get me wrong, all 3rd gens are great! I just prefer the 99-02 models
A few additional "upgrades" that make it that much better than 96-98.
