Xreas is not the airbags set up. just FYI. the airbags are a different thing, come on fewer models.

Xreas is a cross linked fluid system to "keep the vehicle level" when in turns. The FJ setup is better. I know you will get alot of links and things shortly to explain better, I just dont want to look them up.

The air bag setup is totally independent of the XREAS. The RAS was only offered on the Limited trim models. It will be VERY hard to get XREAS installed in a 4runner that wasn't equipped with it from the factory. You're needing the rear air system. This system will not be a direct swap. The mount on the axle is different than a 4runner with coils. It will take a good amount of custom work to get this done, and you looking at a few thousand dollars in parts alone (new). Several guys on toyota120.com have ditched the RAS and went to coils (due to the OEM system failing). You might could get most of the parts from them, but you'd still need to fix certain parts which would easily total over a grand, not counting the headache/custom work required to get it swapped in.
 
Yep, like ark said. The coil buckets are different than the mounts for the air bags. You'd have to cut off the factory coil buckets and weld in the buckets for the airbags. Most people ditch this system because of it either failing, or not working well in a lifted application. And ark is also correct in stating that the xreas shock system is completely independent of the air bag rear suspension.
 
Sweet good guys thanks...i was noticing that on my axle..it would be a perfect application for what im trying to do.. If i could just get the bags i should be alright...im trying all types of different options for my project.
 
See if this link works. If so, this should be all that you need to do the swap, outside of some custom work to mount the bags. You're looking at $2400 for the system best I can tell. No way I'd tackle this for the money/risk, but if you're set on it I'll provide as much info as I can.

In addition to the above, there are a couple other things you need to know. There are two switches in the center console. One adjusts the bags up/down, the other turns the system off. Also, the gauge cluster is different for models with the system. There are indicators for position and on/off. You'd need these to make it work properly.

One more thing. I'm not sure if your 4runner would be prewired for this or not. This may require a ton of custom wiring to get everything hooked up and functioning.

Even if you were able to get the components used for a reasonable price, it'll be a huge endeavor just trying to get it all hooked up. You'd be much cheaper and a lot better off if you'd get the Burtman lowering springs. I know they're over $500, but if that's the look you're going for then it's your best bet. Your only other option is to pick up a spare set of springs and start cutting. Not the way I'd go, but an option. With all the guys doing the FJ swap, you could probably get a full set of springs for the cost of shipping.

sweet yeah i feel u the whole idea of my build is to stay below that price..i found a link that u were involved with in jan 2011. so i was about to pm u.. yeah iv started with the cut spring already brought down about an inch already not to bad..doing the front this weekend about 1.5in. just trying different options.
 
I'm no expert, but I've done a bit of tinkering with my system. It's much more complex than it seems. The front sits low already, so you shouldn't have to cut much there. On the rear, I'm thinking you could cut the coils and add aftermarket air bags that may help the ride. That's a total guess, but may work. The OEM air bags are just that, bags. There are no coils involved. Aftermarket bags actually go inside the coils. Someone more technical will have to comment as to if those would actually help, but I'm thinking that aftermarket bags may help you out if you go the cut spring route.

Yeah believe me I've been down that road already. I know I've been goin back n forth with air lift...the air lift 1000 kit doesn't go up according to airlift it expands to make the coil stiffer...I'm lookin om putting aibags in the rear for comfort but I also like sport handling n performance..I'm reaserching everything...
 
I wouldn't consider the OEM air suspension a good choice for improved ride/handling. As you've seen, I'm fighting with mine right now. It's always something. The only reason I don't ditch mine is because I do some towing/hauling and it's really nice there.

It depends on how much air you put it them. I have mine set at 18 psi and it does lift my back end up some but I probably have about 150lbs of weight in the back. If you ran 8 to 10psi you'd get rid of any bounciness in the ass end but probably not lift it any.

Yeah that's what I thought..that's what air lift said..but it is an alternative if I get a bounce...
