WTF emblem painting problem

So I pulled my emblems off my 3rd gen and painted them gloss black.

They looked fantastic.

Then I hit them up with a clear coat to protect the gloss.

Now they are a VERY DULL GREY!!!

Anyone ever have this happen to them or know what went wrong here? I'm a bit confused as to how this happened.

Sounds like you've either had a reaction between the paint and the clear coat, or you simply didn't lay the clear coat on thick enough. Clear coat is meant to be applied heavily, almost to the point of running, but not, (hence the tricky part of being a good painter). Have you tried hitting it with another coat of clear coat. Worst case scenario it sounds like your going to be sanding them and painting again, so you might as well try another coat before you do that.

no need for clear coat on plastic i did mine with cheap 99cent wally paint and it looked awesome

yeah im guessing it was a reaction with the clear coat. what kind did you use?

IMO clearcoat is very effective especially the front emblem. If i understand it right, it acts as a light shield to all the crap out there that hits it?? sun, salt, rocks etc.
