WTF is this sound!!!! please help

Alright everyone, my wifes 4runner is making a sound that is driving me bonkers...After I installed the ultimate 3" toytec lift my CV's leaked pretty bad, some of you may remember. After that I put new clamps on the cv boots and with a needle on the grease gun, I figured all was well with the 4runner at this point. Over the past couple weeks there has been a metal on metal sound that is progressively getting worse. I have gone over all suspension components several, several times and cant find anything wrong.

What its doing....over bumps when Im going around 5-10 mph it makes the sound, but if you go faster or creep over it it will be silent. I took a couple videos and hopefully one of yall can help out. At this point Im looking at switching out both CV joints later this week...videos will be posted shortly

This vehicle does not go off road, its just a grocery getter for the wife, we both hate stock vehicles so I went with the lift that had everything included and can compensate for a shrockworks bumper in the next year or two...Ive installed a lot of lift kits before and never had this many problems, I will state that I do not believe any of this is toytecs fault, more of a crap luck situation but its a little frustrating...I dont want any type of safety issues while shes out and about.
 
I had a car that did that and it was a bad axle. Check those... I am also concerned because I am thinking of a coilover Icon system for my 05 SE. Where did all that grease come from?

the grease is from the inner CV boot after the install of the lift earlier this year. Honestly I would still lift it if I was back at square one so dont let this intimidate you. CV axles are only 70 bucks from autozone its just the fact that I dont want to change em out lol. Later this week Ill be changing them out if noone has had this before though
 
Lower coilover mount bolt tight? Also, when you reinstalled the front coilovers, did you reuse the stock rubber pad??
 
I honestly dont remember...That could explain part of it but if I saw one I would have definitely put it on...now you have my doubting myself...I think that would have been happening the entire time since I put the lift on, its got around 2k on it since install and its only the last 5-700 miles that this has started happening, and its just now getting worse
 
Go on out there and check both lower coilover bolt and the three upper bolts....make sure they are tight. Also, make sure there is something rubber between that aluminum spacer and the upper strut mount plate (that is welded to the chassis).
 
Hummm....ok. Well, I went outside and snapped a pic of my setup for you. Here is the rubber pad that I am referring to:

I installed it just below the coil spacer. I was remembering it incorrectly....I thought it was above the spacer, but if that were the case, then the three bolts would probably be too short.

Your noise might be the coil rotating on the metal spacer...

BTW, just so you know, my truck is a 3rd gen...if it matters.
 
Alright, I cant see anything but I dont have a flash light handy, its in the truck that is at the shop...anyways I dont see a spring pad so I sprayed it with some WD40 and tightened the top 3 bolts some more, they all moved about 1/4 of a turn and thats with me pulling as hard as I can without breaking anything...
 
Yeah, dont break anything. You might want to give Toytec a call tomorrow and verify that the spring pad should be there....but I'm about 99% sure that it does.
 
Yea Ill give em a call...its still weird that this would not have happened after I put the lift in though..
 
I agree. It is possible that it has something to do with the spring break in period. Maybe the coil has finally sagged to its normal ride height and is causing the issue.
 
I dunno, Thanks a lot for the help...Im sure you understand when your frustrated you can never focus on the little things lol. If Im taking out the coilovers then Ill replace the CV's as well since everythings taken apart anyway though. So either way everything should be happy when Im done
