X-REAS + Cornfed 3/2 Up for grabs

Sorry for the short note - i'm rushing around and just wanted to throw this out there..

Tomorrow i'm tearing out my XREAS suspension and putting in a ToyTec Ultimate Lift Kit on my 2003 4Runner. The XREAS suspension has about 60k miles on it and is partially broken (i think the shop that installed my cornfed let part of it bleed out during install).

So if anyone's interested in a partially broken XREAS they're welcome to it, just let me know. I'm in the SF bay area and would be happy to hold onto it if you want. 1 side's shot i think, the other's fine. The cost for the XREAS would be shipping costs only, local pickup is free but i can't store it for too long so i'll have to be in the next couple of weeks. I figure there may be someone out there interested in tearing one apart and/or trying to repair it.

I also will have a full cornfed 3/2 lift with about 6k miles on it. if anyone's interested PM me or update the thread. It should be in excellent condition.

I also (long story here) have the 2 cornfed 1" rear spacers available. It's the rear of the 2/1 kit only.

Again - sorry for the short notice but i'll need to know if you want the XREAS in the next 24 hours or so (full kit or any pieces of it)

I'll update this thread tomorrow..

If not, I wanted to let everyone know that all past orders and new orders should all ship next week.

We have things setup great here, and the Cornfed kits should be able to ship the same day they are ordered starting next week!
 
hi there - sorry for the delay, one of my CV joints was leaking and my car was away longer than anticipated.

I have the 3/2 kit - it's at the shop, i think crushr has dibs as we'd been PM'ing crushr if you still want it PM me..
 
so now that youve upgraded from the cornfed lift, what are your thoughts about it? Why did you dump the CF? Any disadvantages you noticed? Do you have pix of the new lift? What are the measurements of this lift 3/2? What is the max size tires you can fit with this new lift?
 
Hi there - i went from a Cornfed 3/2 to a ToyTec Ultimate Lift basically because my XREAS suspension failed. Had i known the trouble i would have had over the last 18 months i would have gone with the ToyTec from the get-go, no question about it.

It's really hard to compare the two because the Toy-Tec is a full suspension replacement and the Cornfed is just a spacer kit to the stock or existing suspension. There's definitely more height to the Toy-Tec. i'm not sure how much exactly but it's not insignificant. (in a good way).

I'm running 275/70/17" Mud Terrain on my 2003 Sport and they clear easily, i'm sure you can go up a couple of more sizes too without any problem.

I'm pretty bummed about XREAS in general - the thing's just not designed to be worked on at all. Not even the Toyota Dealerships know what to do with the thing. My local dealer told me that "something's wrong with the rear shock" and that it couldn't be fixed without replacing the entire suspension for $3400. The ToyTec lift cost's about 1/3 of that installed and offers a significantly better ride and look to the truck.

I'm sure XREAS has some place somewhere but when no shop, not even the dealer knows how to work on it it's just not a good choice. Try getting stranded somewhere with a proprietary anything - you're screwed!

So anyway - i'm venting about XREAS which wasn't my intent. The Cornfed lift is great if all you want is the height. I'd say if your suspension has 50-60k+ miles on it you're going to get a better ride out of a replacement like OME or Toy-Tec.

This is just my opinion of course. I don't have any pics yet but i'll probably have some soon. Also i've only had the thing installed for a week, i may hate it in a month ;)

I'm going on a long camping trip through the sierra nevadas in a few weeks, i'll get to break it in for real then.
 
yeah I had my own issues with XREAS....it is so prohibitive and uncompatible. If I knew then what I know now, I would of either got an SR5 version or a Taco/Tundra. But oh well, I have it.

When you say your XREAS stopped working, what does that mean? It broke on its own due to wear and tear? Or it broke off roading? or during the install?
 
i can't really know for sure i guess but i think what happened is that the shop that installed my cornfed kit a while ago let it bleed out, or a seal got bent out of shape due to disconnecting it and slowly failed.

Over the course of about 8 months (but first noticed right after the spacer install) i started hearing this strange rattle coming from somewhere under the car. Every once in a while when i hit a bump the steering would feel just wrong, like the wheel was bouncing around.

The rattle got progressively worse over the months. I knew something was wrong with the suspension but everyone who i'd bring it to would keep it for a few days and just shrug their shoulders at me and tell me i was nuts. One guy found some rocks lodged in the running boards and charged me $100 to remove them so i started getting really annoyed.

One day my buddy and i set out to find the problem in a large rocky parking lot. Within 30 minutes we had the noise narrowed down to the xreas plumbing on the left side (that cylinder thing that's stuck to the frame under the driver's side back door). I could bounce on the bumper and he could feel the thing kick in his hand and you could hear the same sound as when i drove over potholes.

I ordered the ToyTec the next day and had it installed a week later.

Problem gone - the ride is smooth and really quite nice, much better than before. The guy at the (new) shop called me when they were done installing it and told me the truck drove like a Lincoln. He's not too far off either and it takes rough roads great. Off roading for the first time in a couple of weeks.

KrazyNative, here's a cell phone pic of the 1" rear spacers.. let me know...

The picture quality is kinda poor but basically they're in great shape but there are a few marks from them having been installed. I only had them installed for about 3 months or so, maybe 1000 miles or so as i moved up to a 3/2" after..

Don't let this write up on 3/2 Cornfed kits confuse any new prospective 3/2 kit owners.

This guy obviously had his stuff installed by some folks that do not know how to install lift kits and more importantly a 3/2 kit properly.

Installing a CF 3/2 kit is very simple and you never want to open your xreas line at all.

I will repeat when you install a 3/2 kit YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OPEN ANY XREAS LINES AT ALL!

BY the way....where are the pics of the Toy Tec lift?
