X-REAS on the Limited...

Check for other posts about X-REAS. It seems most people that have it really like it.
You can also search for people ordering versus accepting something off the lot. It's probably fair to say that most members are willing to order exactly what they want and then wait for it. But given the lead time for delivery, Toyota may not be accepting custom order much longer on the 2007 models.
It really comes down to a personal decision. Are you the type that will obsess over what you had to settle for, or will you be OK with getting the truck without X-REAS? If you'll obsess about it, then the answer is pretty obvious.

I'd suggest that you drive a 4Runner with and without X-REAS and decide for yourself if it's a must have. It's standard on the Sport Edition, so that should be easy to find. I don't have X-REAS and certainly don't feel a need for it, but I admit that I haven't driven a 4Runner with it so I may not know what I'm missing. I don't have any complaints about handling or body roll without it.

Imho the X-REAS is worth it. I can without a doubt say that I have driven and am driving both 4runners with and without it. The difference is like night and day. Some may not notice the difference, but I do. When I drive my SR5 (when the wifey isn't using it) it handles great for what it is onroad. However, when I drive my Sport (wife no touchie at all - hands off), it is so much smoother. It doesn't dive as much in hard braking and cuts into corners smoothly without excessive roll. If you really want it, get it. It also comes with the air suspension on the Limiteds. You don't want to buy something that doesn't have a feature you want. You won't be happy and you'll end up saying "shoulda" everyday as you drive your X-reas-less truck. Besides, your getting a Limited, be a crime if it didn't have X-REAS. Life is too short, man. Just my two cents.

IMHO....The decision about XREAS is centered on what your plans are for the 4Runner. If you plan to trick it out for street use then the XREAS are outstanding. If you plan to lift it and modify it for off road use the XREAS get in your way and need to be removed.
No judgement either way here. I like the XREAS performance on the street and I would have kept them if I didn't go down the Off road path.
Look ahead to where you want to be and if street, look for XREAS...if off road, look for non-XREAS or plan to remove them. :bigok:

Yeah, I drove the both the X-REAS equiped and non-equiped models and really enjoyed the feel of the stiffer system. The majotity of my driving will be street. I also prefer the Limited over the Sport package so I really want to couple the Limited w/ the X-REAS. I'm willing to wait till my prefered package shows up but I'm being told that new Limiteds are longer being shipped with the X-REAS. I find that hard to believe and am just looking for confirmation either way.
BTW, I went through 2 months of research and driving the various mid-size trucks and SUV's and the 4Runner is just tops... but you folks already know that!

My own taste find the XREAS to be "firm" but actually smooth on bumps and rough road. Not a hard ride at all IMO.
I test drove, on the same day (within a few minutes) both a SR5 (without XREAS) and a Sport (with XREAS) and immediately knew I preferred the XREAS suspension...
I would up getting a Sport because of the ride, even tho it was not my trim of choice at the time and I am extremely happy with it.

The XREAS is nice, I will agree...(just drive down a dirt road that is ribbed from washout and you will barely feel the bumps). I think it rides smoother than the standard suspension set up, even with a 2 '' lift on it still rides smooth, no roll in cornering as well. It also handles towing trailers/boats/cars without a problem.
...But, when it is time to replace the XREAS I am going to buy a fancy set of coil overs and go from there. I have heard that replacing the XREAS is expensive.

My wife and I ordered an 07 Limited 4Runner from a dealer 7 days ago and we ordered it with the XREAS. Dealer said nothing about Toyota not taking the orders for it. Honestly think the Dealer is trying to sell you something they can get their hands on now, but then I don't run a Dealership. We ordered it here in Houston, TX. Hope this helps!

I agree with jharris2's statements. I ordered my truck and didn't order X-REAS. I haven't driven a X-REAS truck either. If I were to do it again, I probably order it just so it's something different. Tucson T4R is right, if off-road mods are in your plans, regular suspension is better, since the X-REAS system is limited to only spacer lifts and has to be removed for more aggressive off-road mods.
Also, since you're getting the V8 there's two X-REAS options available, just X-REAS only and X-REAS with rear air-suspension. The rear air-suspension will allow the 4Runner to lift and lower its butt. I would say this is probably the handiest feature if you're off-roading (in stock form) and hitching a trailer for towing, especially with the nav and back-up camera.

Has there ever been a slalom test done on a sport model and on a model without XREAS? I think that would highlight the differences between the two the most objectively although hopefully the two models being compared have the same engine to account for weight differences.
I personally love the v8 in mine.. wish there were a VVT-i add-on you could get in the aftermarket though!
