I like how there is this warning on their site to download the software:
"Notes: Be sure to disable/uninstall anti-virus software
Please note,anti-virus software can flag up this product software as having a virus. This is a false positive and is due to the software containing the application file like .exe. So Before setup the device software, please disable/uninstall anti-virus software or install a more reliable virus scanner! Our product software is completely safe and virus free and all other virus scanners confirm this."

Are you able to read live data with this cable? I have a $20 ebay one and it fails to read. I am able to make adjustments in the customize section though.

All MVCI drivers throw the antivirus warning. I normally disable it while I'm using Techstream.
 
Folks, in my full-time job (freelance photography doesn't always pay the bills) as an Information Security Engineer, I would be VERY WARY of using Chinese versions of anything.

In an isolated test environment, I downloaded a chinese version of some software to program a 2m handheld radio. What I found was that not only did the software suck for programming, but open ports and "phone home" traffic was very active and secured to make what was passing through difficult, at best, to read or see.

That said, I realize this is software loaded on to a tablet or laptop and connected to the car via ODBII port. But, when not being used for that, if the tablet or laptop are subsequently used on a home wi-fi network, there is the potential for any information kept on that device, to be exfiltrated (i.e., copied and sent on to the busy Chinese hacking community).

Cannot confirm that any "phone home" channels exist, but would be remiss if I did not at least put it out there to be VERY careful. Data loss by various hacking communities (Chinese & Russians, primarily) is a multi-billion dollar a year situation!
 
For $55 you can get the 2-day TIS Professional Diagnostic subscription, you can do everything you want in two days cant you? Use the drivers you are "supposed" too, not the "other" ones

Try it a few times. Mine works, but sometimes disconnects and picks back up. This is the same as what you got from eBay, all the chinese ones are.

That's why you run it on a Windows XP VM (with nothing else on it) and no network connection

I think that is only access to Techstream software, you still need a cable and drivers, so your next cheapest option is a Mongoose cable for about $500. That's what most non Toyota dealer shops use. It works better and allows flashing and other operations that don't work on the XHorse.

I didn't really want to spell it out. my point being has anyone tried using "official" drivers with a "non-official" cable? More often than not hardware, particularly cloned hardware, is just hardware (obviously depending on how complex said hardware is of course) I don't imagine this cable to be so complex :shrug:

Honestly, I haven't looked into it as much as I should, but the XHorse uses a different chipset, and based on the Techstream cable tests, most of the pins are not functional, where it is expecting them to be on Toyota/Mongoose cables.
