XM and Scion

I finally grabbed a Scion HU off of Ebay. I have a XM Skyfi2 unit that I use with the FM modulator. The fidelity is questionable. I would like to install the Scion HU soon and want to know if I can direct connect the XM to it? Would I need the adaptor for Pioneer equipment?
BTW, has anyone here used BestBuy install service? How would you rate them?

I'm actually in the same boat. I have been researching this for some time, but every answer directs me back to Toyota. They have an exclusive agreement with XM for that specific head unit and the pin connection. I have a guy that works with car audio wiring harnesses looking into it for me, but it's been months. I want to retain the stock look, but I may be forced to buy aftermarket for a direct connect. Keep me posted if you have better success.

While the Scion unit is supposed to be made by Pioneer, there is no Pioneer IP-BUS interface on it. The connections are purely Toyota factory. I doubt any type of Pioneer interface could be made to work with this.

I use a PAC AUX-BOX (called Aux2car now I think?) to connect my MP-3 player. It provides the RCA audio jacks for input. You need the box, a PAC adapter cable, and a Toyota factory wire harness that can be purchased from PAC or a dealer. The unit plugs into the CD-Changer port on the rear. Note though that according to PAC, you can't use the factory CD-Changer with the AUX-BOX

There are a couple others Blitzsafe, and PIE that people have used to do the same thing.

My Delphi unit is hooked up to my scion HU using a WIRED fm modulator...Sounds great, not as bad as the wireless one....
 
Ok so now I have the Scion HU, and the XM Skyfi2 satellite receiver. I am thinking of buying the PIE TOY03 adaptor that will interface the Skyfi2 to the cd changer input of the Scion. Sound right?
What mode do you put the Scion in to play the Sat radio?
What kind of hardwired FM modulator would I need if I chose that way of interfacing? One for a Pioneer I assume?
 
With the PIE, PAC, or Blitzsafe, you just need to select "CD" on the stereo.

If you have a CD in the unit, you have to press the button twice, once for the internal CD, and again for the CD Changer input.

I get a weird looking display with a Disc and Track number that switches back and forth between 1 and 2, but it works fine otherwise.

As far as a hardwired FM modulator, it really doens't matter what brand you choose, just get the best one. The units that I have seen just plug inline with the antenna, which is a common plug.

I've used both, and personally the PIE, PAC, Blitzsafe style seem to have better frequency response. All the FM modulators that I've had seem to muddy up the sound a bit. Just my opinion.

I agree, Mike.

The Roady2 built-in Modulator cripples a lot of the dynamic range of the audio. The PIE adapter was a huge improvement (kind of like going from AM to FM).

I'm in the same boat and just installed the scion HU. I want to directly wire my skyfi2 into the HU. Sounds like I need this pie connection that plugs into the CD changer port. Where is the best place to get this connection?

Well, I found a Blitz adapter for 74.95. That a good price? Hope its worth it!

I have a new, unused XM radio adaptor for the Scion headunits. I've been trying to sell it, but seems no one has been in the market for it lately. I still have it if someone wants it.

I have the same set-up for XM w/the Scion that you. It rocks!

I am having a challenge with my SAT Antenna that it shorts out for a while after I am driving in the rain or after I wash the truck and not dry off the roof top unit thoroughly. I just let it magnetically attach to the trucks roof. Did you use the adhesive or any silicone to seal around the edges?

I have mine dirctly in front of the spoiler, centered with the truck. I used the 3M adhesive that came with the antenna, but it's also magnetic. I didn't seal it in any way. It should be cutting out. I would return it to toyota. It does have a 1 year warranty, even if you installed it yourself.

Have you gone through any car washes?
