XM Being Installed Today .

I am having the Toyota XM tuner installed into my 2008 4Runner Limited today, which will work with the SAT button on the factory NAV unit.

I saw the install kit and the little XM antenna seems to have a lot of wire, but they (by Toyota instructions) put it on the dash.

Has anyone undertaken the job of moving it up the A pillar and perhaps onto the roof?

Comments about reception with the antenna on the dash?

Ive got a buddy that has put his GPS antenna "in" the dash, works great, I have mine (Sirius) antenna and GPS on the roof.
So Im thinking either place will work great. make sure you post up post of it on and playing :driving:

The dealer installed the Toyota XM tuner and "fit kit" which was the antenna etc... The antenna WAS mounted on the roof in the back. The installation is sweet and the unit works perfectly.

The XM receiver is p/n 86180-0w031 and the fit-kit is p/n PT546-89060. You can Google them for sources.

I just wired up a sirius antenna in mine. For some reason (maybe it's the condensation/cold combo for me) I can't make an antenna last longer than 6 months if I mount it on the outside of the truck. I have other friends that have no problems but they're expensive to buy so I got sick of having to replace them.

So what I did is pop the cover for the center speaker on the dash, ran the cable down from there and cinched the antenna down when I re-installed the speaker cover.

All you see is the antenna (which if it's centered correctly looks great) and no wires. Receptions still really good too (just don't stick the antenna on the lower part of the dash towards the windsheild, stick it closest to the passenger cabin). And it's all indoors so I don't have to replace them anymore.

I ran mine under my dash then along all the door sills (the plastic snaps in and out very easily) they up the rear pillar and out onto the roof behind the the rear mount of the roof rack, you cant even see it. It's super easy to run the wire.

Awesome, I will be picking up my Sirius package shortly and needed some mounting ideas. I am having toyota install it so id like to tell them where to put it. Let us kow how the reception is inside b/c i like that center speaker idea. I think i was told by service rep that they install it behind the rear view mirror on the inside after running the wires through the roof lining.
