XM Install

Great Thread!

My wife is the proud owner of '08 Limited and I was going to try to do this install and save the $450 that the dealer wants to install it.
However, apparently the Terk XMDTLK has been discontinued! A few web sites still have some, but they have jacked up the price to $200.
A new device, which looks very cool is coming but there seems to be major delays for OEM (toyota, GM, etc) cables.

Here is the device:

And here is the thread that talks about installing it and the OEM delays:

I am also afraid of taking apart the dash of a brand new car. I saw the link to the detailed instructions, and frankly, it looks like a total pain. How were you guy's experience? Any parts dinged up? or didn't fit back in tight? Someone said only 1.5 hours for the install... true?

Thanks!

It looks like a pain, but in reality it is very easy. I had zero dings or scratches from my install. Just take your time. Being careful it took me no more than 2 hours.

Enjoy!

MAC4Runner,

Did you follow the instructions here exactly?
Do you have to start with the center shifter cover? Did you unplug all the things he said to unplug?

I ended up ordering the same version you guys did. I ordered the XMDTLK part from Myradiostore for $119, then the universal tuner part from Crutchfield for $49. I wanted to put it under the tree for the wife and have no faith that the XMDirect 2 products would be available anytime soon.

Kimper,

I followed the directions on this site exactly. You must remove the center console and follow all the steps. I used the same instructions when I installed my Scion radio. You'll do fine.

No worries! :biggrin2:

Installed my Scion hu today

and decided I just don't care about sat radio. Besides I pay large to regular radio stations for advertising so I need to keep checking on the times they're playing my spots.
SO, I've got a brand new Sirius setup, plugs into the back and tunes through the HU. 1 Box, 1 plug to the HU, one antenna. Never been mounted but no box or paper for it. Came with the Scion HU I bought. I believe this sells for $250 new.
$125 shipped.

edit: oops on the XM/sirius :bash:
