XM or Sirius?

They both have their strong points. If you are into sports Sirius has a lot - not sure about XM. As you can tell by my name I am a Bama Fan. All of our football games are on Sirius, so that is what I HAD to get. If you're a Howard Stern fan, he is also on Sirius. That doesn't mean much to me! Bottom line is they both have similar general programming. The thing that should sway your decision is the specialty programs that are available on either one.

I listen to Classic Rock and I thought that Sirius had a wider variety of channels. I went with Sirius because of that. Other things to consider are Sirius has Howard Stern and XM has Opie and Anthony. Both companies have their high points. My only complaint about Sirius is their sound quality is not the greatest.
I went with XM. As the others have mentioned, both have pretty similar selections when it comes to music, so pick one based on the extras that you get. I'm a huge baseball fan, and XM has an EXCELLENT mlb program, which includes every spring training, WBC, regular season, and playoff game, as well as a "Home" station that has 24 hour baseball talk programming. It's the only thing i listen to!

If you are a local team sports fan, then the sports channels don't matter because (most likely) an AM or FM station in your area will carry the local sports team's games.
Sirius has a better "hair band" station than does XM, if you're into that sort of stuff... and more diverse rock stations, that's what the dude at Tweeter told me - & he has both services. I have Sirius.

I went with Sirius Sportster Replay. I pop it from car to my boombox at work. the wires are a bit annoying in the car but when warm weather comes I'll investigate hiding them. Howard Stern was my only reason for getting sat radio. I'm not much of a music fan so I only listen to stern and the comedy channels.

I got an xm for christmas last year and installed it ans paid for a 3 month sub. After about a month and 1/2 I went and bought a Sirius tuner and paid for another 3 month sub because the xm was terrible for my listening tastes.
I listen to a lot of 80's rock, hard rock and alternative and there just isn't much to choose from in those genres on the xm dial so there I was with 100 channels of crap and nothing that I cared to listen to.
My take on the two is as follows.
Pop, R&B, and rap all go to xm.
Rock, alternative, sports, and talk to sirius. (Go Bubba!)
News, jazz, and international are about the same.
As for SQ, I don't see any difference at all. Both have popular channels that aren't compressed very much, and off the beat channels with heavy compression. For my tastes the SQ of the sirius is just as good as the xm was. It would be even better if I used a line out to a modulator but I switch vehicles too much to permanently mount the unit so fm it is.
Plus I listen in the work truck where taking the dash apart isn't an option. I just removed the outside antenna from the truck and there is zero interference. I wish I could say the same for the wife's 4runner though. The antenna's in that pick up all kinds of crap and I have to switch channels about every 30 minutes. I'm probably going to get a cassette adapter or something for it.
So for the skinny on the above, I have a sirius and love it to death. I won't drive down to the corner store in my wife's truck without grabbing it. terrestrial radio is really that bad. You just don't know it yet.
