Well, I have NO intention of renewing. They deleted the channels I listened to when I had it before and now they have added commercials. :roadkill::roadkill: I don't need to spend my money to have them give me commercials too!
I called them trying to hook up my new stereo and wouldnt transfer my trial. They said it was only allowed to be hooked up on the stock unit, so I asked about the plans and she tried to sell me some plan with EVERY channel. I said I really just wanted 40-60 and wouldnt shut up while I was asking her questions.
I ended up just hanging up on her. Doubt i'll renew, unless they have a great deal. I'm happy with my ipod for now.
I just got off the phone with them (25 minutes listening to static filled muzak) and the lady would not budge from their stock rates without a promotion code for the 5 month 20$. She didn't deny it existed, just wouldn't put in the code or transfer me to someone who would.
My 3 month trial is supposed to end on the 15th, I may call back a few more times and see what someone else can do. Otherwise, it's over and my 8gb USB will do fine.
Nope. I just told the guy I wanted to go with the $77 for one year plan. It took him maybe a minutento set it up, he then told me there would be a $11 fee for royalty for a total of $88. I said not a problem and was off the phone pretty quickly. He was very helpful and quick at getting me taken care of.
Try doing that. If the rep can't help you, then hangup and try again.
Disclaimer: I was already an XM customer, which may or may not make a difference. If you continue to not have success, try signing up for service, let them charge you for one month, then call back and ask for the special before the month is up. My thinking is that it might only be for current customers.
I'm glad I found this thread. I called and did the prompts to cancel my service. Then I told the rep I wanted the 1 year for $77 ($88 w/ royalty). She asked would I stay with XM if she couldn't get me the deal. I said no, that I'd been a customer for a while, but never signed a long-term contract (always done month-to-month) and would be willing to. She put me on hold for about 2 min, then came back and said ok! :thumb3:
Sirius/XM is no different than any other subscription based company. They have a department of people that is dedicated to customer retention, and if you call asking to cancel your account, eventually you will end up talking to one of them. Typically they have more power to negotiate a deal but even they have limits to what they can offer a customer to keep them a customer.
Some tips based on past experience on both sides of the calls:
Be nice to the people on the phone because pleasant people get better deals. A rude person is just likely to get a basic "save" attempt and a quick service disconnection.
If they ask why you are canceling, make it about the money... reception, service, or channel complaints will get you nowhere because they can't do anything about it but they can lower your subscription costs.
When they offer you a deal that you like, ask them if you can have a few days to think about it. This will force them to record the offer in the notes on your account, preventing "accidents" from causing you to lose your new rate.
Unless you are an existing customer, you don't have much leverage. If they offer you a cheap introductory rate, TAKE IT! Then when you call back to cancel it, you have the same leverage as everyone else.
Fortunately, no one has called me, mailed me, or even bothered to confirm that I have XM, so I'm just going to keep my mouth shut.
