XM - Recent Renewals?

I have never gone without it. I call day before renewal date to "cancel". I do let them have the CC number, but I always make note of the renewal date so I don't let it auto-renew at the ridiculously high rate.

I've been doing the exact same thing for a number of years now, and just repeated it on Wednesday, 7/23. I run "XM-Select" in both of our vehicles, mine and the wifes, Wednesday's deal was for two vehicles, total $61.22 for 5 months. I can live with that....:thumb3:

My 3 mo. free trial just ended on Wednesday, and I recieved my renewal information in the mail. 15$/mo - or 165$/year... yah right. How did you guys go about negotiating for a deal like 28$/6 months, and who did you contact?

when you call them, ask them about the promotions-the best one is the 5 months for 25 or so. The best year subscription is the 90 range. I wish I would have bought the lifetime subscription in 2006/2007.

I just got an email from them wanting me to renew at $218.64! I have no intention to do it.

I think that is absurd, I only listen to a couple of their stations and not even every day. So the hell with it.

I like the idea of their service since I travel around in and out of regular radio service areas, but not for that price.

I thought it was supposed to be around $100 per year when I first got a portable unit for my previous vehicle. Then the 4Runner came with a free trial so I renewed it when it expired, and thought I canceled the portable one.

I now wonder if they are trying to charge me for both even though I never use the old one.

I've called them several times telling them that I'll only renew if I can get a lifetime subscription. They aren't interested and simply don't care about inconveniencing their customers by making them call back every five months for the best deal. So, they get nothing from me and the endless mail offers will begin shortly. I refuse to give a lousy company like that even 5 bucks a month.

Is the 5 months for $25 people seem to be getting for the XM-Select or the All-Access package? I'm assuming it's the XM-Select based upon most posts and the stuff that keeps showing up in the mail.

I called today and was offered $131.71 for the All-Access for 1 year. Woman on the phone even told me to make sure and call back before it expires in a year if I do choose to subscribe to get another promo offer so I won't have to pay full price later. Maybe their marketing department is actually doing work and reading message boards?

I considered renewing if the price was right, but my fiance made a good point - Even if XM only cost $80 a year, That's 8 albums you can buy on Itunes - more if you look for deals on Amazon, Best Buy, Ebay, etc.

I'd rather build up my music library every year than "throw away" $80.

I let it expire about a month ago because I have Spotify. I don't answer calls from unknown numbers so I missed all the marketing crap, but after about 3 weeks I started to miss it. I (for some reason) answered a call last night from them and they offered 6 months for $30 and didn't charge anything for reactivation so I went for it. Just have to remember to "cancel" in 6 months I guess...

Renewed mine for a year at about $9.50/month. I've usually only paid $5-$6/month when I had Sirius in my Jeep but XM seems to charge more even though they are the same company. Best deal I've got so far was $7/month. For an extra couple dollars per month not having to call these people for a year is worth it to me.

I also got a free month out of it because when I called to cancel a month ago, they let it stay active for 30 days. So, basically, I'm paying $9 per month for 13 months.

That's really not a bad deal...just like mine above, XM-Select, two vehicles which were $25. per vehicle, but after they tack on taxes and royalty fees per vehicle which brought it to $61.22 for two vehicles.

Nope. I just told the guy I wanted to go with the $77 for one year plan. It took him maybe a minutento set it up, he then told me there would be a $11 fee for royalty for a total of $88. I said not a problem and was off the phone pretty quickly. He was very helpful and quick at getting me taken care of.

Try doing that. If the rep can't help you, then hangup and try again.

Disclaimer: I was already an XM customer, which may or may not make a difference. If you continue to not have success, try signing up for service, let them charge you for one month, then call back and ask for the special before the month is up. My thinking is that it might only be for current customers.

I did the same thing. Try just saying "cancel" at voice prompts.

This post got me curious. I checked one of my favorite "deal forums" and found the following post:

Sirius XM has a crisis on their hands over the firing of Anthony from the Opie and Anthony Show. Subscribers are leaving in masses and the customer service reps have been offering up to 6 months of free service to keep the subscribers on the books.

Call : 866-635-5020 and when prompted, reply "Cancel Service"

Tell them you are unhappy with the unfair firing of Anthony, the company's poor handling of the situation, their attempted censorship of hosts, something along those lines. They'll read you a canned response on the issue and then offer the freebies.

On my first call, I was offered 2 months free. On my second call, I was given a full 6 months free.

Even if you don't have the slightest care about the issue, no reason not to get a couple free months out of the ordeal. Great follow up to everyone that got in on the 5 months for $20 deal from February and are about to get wacked for their first month at full price.

I cancelled a few days early, and received a 6 month email renewal offer for $24.99 within 5 days. No reactivation fee. Crazy pricing plans.

Just wish it was better quality stream. I know the 4Runner sound system isn't the best but boy can I tell a difference in quality between FM HD and XM.

Just a heads up. I managed for the third consecutive time the other day to have both my vehicles renewed at $24.99 plus tax and royalty fees for 5 months again. Total came to $28.46 per vehicle. On both vehicles we have Sirius/XM "Select." :rockon: :thumb3:

Once my trial ends I seriously doubt that I will use it (I hardly use it as it is). I simply can't justify spending money on such heavily compressed/poor sounding music (and I don't listen to talk shows). I would much rather put that money towards a larger data subscription on my phone and simply stream much higher bitrate music (iTunes, Pandora, Spotify, etc) that sounds good to my ears.

Yup...I told them I wanted to cancel, boom, got a retention guy on the line and got the same deal.

I usually listen to Liquid Metal, and my own music is usually heavier than that. I keep XM around for my elderly parents and my wimmen folk. They don't tend to appreciate Pig Destroyer as much as I do.

I don't have much of a commute, so it doesn't really pay for me to subscribe for radio service. That said, the XM in my truck (factory mid level system, similar to 4Runner) sounded much better than the 4Runner TE system. XM sounded muffled and extremely low quality during my trial in the 4Runner. I couldn't stand to listen to it. Don't recall it being that bad in the truck.

But the breaking point is how relentless they are in the mailings and telemarketers constantly hounding me to sign up for service. It really has turned me off of their organization, to the point I don't want to ever do business with them. I'm sorry I ever signed up for the free trial when I bought the vehicle.
