XM Unit for Scion HU

Looking for the best deal I can find on the XM reciever for the Scion HU. Any recommendations?

I've searched the forum, but haven't come across anyone that has actually installed the XM unit. Has anyone here done it?

I've got to believe the Pioneer XM reciever could be used, if the right plug was available to plug into the Scion HU. At a significant price difference from the Toyota XM reciever, it seems worthwhile to investigate. I feel a project coming on!

By the way, the Scion HU audio quality is tremendously better then the stock HU, even with stock speakers.

So, the question of the day is: Who has the best deal for a Toyota XM reciever for the Scion HU?

Try going to www.scionlife.com and check out the classifieds. I have seen a few of them on there for way cheaper than the dealer. I was going to get one for a great price but the guy flaked.
 
Already checked there....found nothing, not even in the parts section. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Any dealers sell this at cost?

How was the installation? Also, I noticed that there are 2 different XM tuners.. one is for the xA/xB and one is for the tC... do you have any idea what the difference is between these two?
 
I think you're talking about the Scion HU - there's only one to consider - it's for both the Xa/Xb and tc. You want to be sure to get the 2005 or later HU. It has a configuration that you can set for either car (actually just an different equalization setting).

The actual XM reciever I'm talking about is the XM unit that plugs into the HU. The HU itself won't recieve XM, it will display the channel info (artist, etc) from the XM reciever which gets buried in the dash. This isn't a Roady or other normal consumer XM radio - it's a special made by pioneer for Toyota that plugs directly into the HU.

I already have the Scion HU (yes, available on eBay for <$100) but the Toyota dealer will want around $300 for the XM reciever. I'm looking for a cheaper source.
 
Oh, and installation...

Not bad at all. It took about an hour. A number of console and dash facia pieces to remove, but the radio slips right in just like the factory unit. There are a number of posts here detailing the process.

No, I'm talking about the scion XM tuner...

Two XM tuners... two part numbers.

I have a 6cd HU i bought last summer... so I'm assuming its from a 2004 scion.

Thanks for the link. That's better than the dealer price. When comparing to the Pioneer iP-bus units you can buy on eBay, it's still way too high. I haven't seen any of the Toyota units on eBay.

As far as the two part numbers, they are the same part - Toyota has 2 different part numbers based on the target vehicle, but as I understand it, they are indeed the same unit.

I can't speak to the 6-disk HU, but the single-disk that works with the XM is the T-1804, and has a Sat-Ready logo at the bottom of the faceplate.

The search continues for the reciever.....

I'm interested in where you got the factory xm for $269. I can justify that price.

Also curious as to how long the cable was between the reciever and the HU? I also plan on installing an amateur radio 2m/440 rig, so I may want to put both in the very back of the 4R.

The cable is about as long as the 4runner. I had cable to spare.

I have a friend that works at Toyota. $269.42 is employee cost. Cost plus 10%.
