XPEL Ultimate Paint Protection Film - What are your thoughts?

I recently bought a new 2021 4Runner and looking to keep it looking as new for as long as possible. I was quoted $1800 for XPEL Ultimate PPF in the Seattle area from a very reputable shop.

What’s everyone’s thoughts and experience with XPEL PPF? Should I get it?

for the whole car? I think I payed about the same as that for stek dynoshield but the entire hood, front bumper, and fenders. Its a lifesaver if you have a lot of highway miles, especially in snowy climate where they sand the road.

I had my hood and front done. Wish I would have done the entire thing. I think it is worth the money if you care about keeping it looking great.

Having removed this stuff from a few vehicles after it cracked and got nasty 10 years down the road I would personally steer clear of it. It's horrible to remove. REALLY horrible. Mine's now 10 years old with 83k new england miles and the paint still looks great. Sure there's a few chips here and there but it's really not bad. I think this stuff is more applicable to cars that sit lower to the ground and get a lot more stuff kicked up onto them in traffic. I had a 00 BMW 323 wagon (sport package with a stick) before my 4Runner with 285k on the clock that had very little paint on the front of it.

100% agree with the quote above. All the films have a shelf life and if you don't remove or replace in time, it's murder to do so.

My last 2 4Runners I had CQuartz Finest Reserve ceramic coated. Definitely worth the cost (I paid less than what you were quoted for XPEL) and keeps the truck looking great.

All true statements, PPF needs to be removed or replaced after a certain lifespan

Having said that ceramic protection of any kind does not protect from rock chips. It will help protect from light marring or swirl marks but offers no protection against impact

I've had the "clear bra" plastic 3M paint protector film on all my cars since my 2013 RAV4. None of them has ever needed to have the clear bra replaced. So my experience is they last at least seven years.

I live in Utah where the desert summer sun is brutal, so I know it holds up well with a high UV environment which used to be the death of factory clear coat paint.

Most PPF suppliers rate average lifespan as 5-10 years, depending on your geographic location and UV rating as you mentioned.

My experience is few of them are poor enough quality to yellow much any more, but when you go to pull off a 7-10 year installation the adhesive has started to craze and it isn't pretty.

The older ppf material tended to crack and yellow overtime, newer material by 3M and Xpel doesn't have these limitations. It's actually a great way to protect the truck especially the front of ours which tends to be very upright and is about as aerodynamic as a brick.

Im assuming thats only for the full front? I paid $1800 for the full XPEL front. Its the best in the business from what I've read and they have a 10 year warranty. Also, the self healing properties are defintely worth it!
