Xreas added after a possibility?

I have an SR5 and did NOT want a Limited. Can the XREAS be added after or is it just a factory option?
If it's only a factory install, what is the best way to "stiffen" up the suspension. I live in a rural area, so most of my miles are hwy miles, but I when I got through alot of start/stop driving in cities, I can't get over the nose-diving at stop lights.
Also, has anyone done anything to firm up the steering feel? Not sure why Toyota went with such light steering on the T4R...

One thing I've been wondering is if we could put some different sway bar combinations on to improve handling/cornering. This way you'd still have a nice ride (not really any stiffer) but with better handling. Just a thought. I haven't seen it discussed but also haven't done a search for it. Most seem to be all about suspension.

Thoughts?

Xreas can definitely be added. You just need to find someone removing their xreas and ask them to be extra careful when disconnecting the fittings. The only problem is that the fittings can only be disconnected a time or two without leaking fluid.

I considered it at one point, as several people here on the forum were selling their Xreas. Most of the advice from the forum was that aftermarket struts were a better option considering the hassle.

I like this idea too. Maybe we can get a petition together for an aftermarket sway bar company like Addco?

Do you have KDSS? The swaybars on a KDSS equipped TE are HUGE compared to those on the SR5. I think the suspensions are the same otherwise.

That is pretty much the whole idea behind KDSS. You get nice, fat swaybars for on road driving and they automatically "disconnect" when the 4Runner determines it needs additional articulation.

Can KDSS be retrofitted to an SR5?

I'm sure it is possible, but you'd spend a load of money, time, and pain doing it. There is actually an ECU that goes along with KDSS, so I'm sure it would be a total bear. I'd recommend buying a TE if KDSS is important to you.

No, I don't have KDSS. I wish I did. I did drive one that had it. Off-road, I'm not really concerned with, so I wouldn't mind just a fatter swaybar.

Are the GX sway bars any bigger or anything? And/or would they bolt in? Sequoia (probably too wide)?

I'm really curious on this subject actually. You need to 'do it right' with sway bars, meaning there are a lot of physics to take into account. Too big on one (front or back, I can't remember) and you're prone to understeer. Too big on the other and the a** end can whip out on you. Its a balance, but can improve road handling significantly if done right (from what I understand.)

Dont waste you money on Xreas . you would notice so little (if any at all) difference and it would cost a small fortune .

So what shocks have performed the best for reducing nose diving?

I have not modified any of my previous vehicles. From reading this forum, it gave me confidence to install Bilstein 5100 (front and rear) and leveled out the front. It helped reduce the nose dive and body roll noticably.

Still a smooth ride the wife would still like?
