Xreas in only the rear?

I'm in the process of installing my new lift. Just taking a break to put my son to bed.

I have everything except for the rear shocks. Waiting for them to be delivered hopefully soon. However Im going to be real busy soon so I started the lift and just going to keep the stock rear shocks until my new shocks come in.

But it just dawned on me that I would be running only rear xreas...and technically they would be solo since their buddy front shocks are gone.

Can u run rear xreas shocks by themselves? I thought I remember reading never to compress the xreas shock when it's apart. If I leave the center control piece in would it be ok?

May have to run out and get some 5100s in the mean time. :T

Xreas works diagonally so the front right is connected hydraulically to the back left and vise versa. I think the proper disconnect points have check valves so you could simply disconnect the front or back at the proper points or somehow cap them and you wouldn't loose any oil while driving.

If you are only waiting a week or so for the new rear shocks and plan on trashing the Xreas system I don't see why you couldn't run without the oil for a short time. The ride would be pretty bad in the mean time though I would expect. Lots of bouncing.

Lots of bouncing is an understatement. Before I got my Bilsteins on my truck felt like a trampoline...

yeh dont think im going to keep the xreas around.

i think if i disconnect the fronts all the way up to the central control absorbers it should be ok. the rears would just be working independently instead of with their pair.

It theoretically could work I suppose, I would do it at the disconnect point as it has a valve.

yeh im removing the fronts up to the central control absorbers. the fronts go into the central control absorbers and both ends have a check valve. with those disconnected each rear shock will connect to the central control absorbers and end there. hopefully no leakage. :P

The disconnect points are not at the central dampeners, they are located a bit further away from them.

Just so there's no confusion. :)

the only disconnects i see are the disconnects near each shock and then the one in "front" of the central absorbers

i pulled out the whole front lines (pita), only a few drops of oil when disconnecting from the central absorbers. is there another disconnect?

What makes them a pita to remove?

I have XREAS and I plan on doing Bilstein 6112 and 5100 or 5160 rear, with some spring.

Actually it's not too bad. I had trouble getting the forward lines that connect from the central absorber to the front shock disconnects out. The lines run thru a small opening between the body, frame and body mount. Just just have to

finesse it thru.
