XREAS is tired.. Replacing with options.

Searched for a while for options... so did that homework. Looking for opinions.

My 2008 sport's suspension is tired and I am wanting to rip it out and replace.

The issue I have is I don't want a big lift. I thought about the following options:

1. 5100's with OME 894/toytec. But already think the rear is tall enough and the 3/2 lift, personally would be too much.

2. 5100's with Toyota OEM stock springs front and back. Then kit a small level kit, daystar, etc. Are the 5100's valved too much for stock springs?

3. 5100's with 4x4 Moog T4R springs and stock in back. But hear that the spring perches issues still persist.

As you can see, i'm not into it for a ton of money, but want to replace the worn, leaking XREAS and get her looking level.

I appreciate any opinions/input.

How many miles on your current springs?
V6 or V8?

If your looking for the least expensive option and your springs aren't shot I would recommend getting 4 Billsteins and adjusting them for your desired look.

If your looking for middle of the road expense I would reccomend the full OME 884/895E with matching OME shocks...or the Toytec Superflex rear springs.
Or
Getting new factory springs with Billsteins adjusted for your desired look.

If your looking for more expensive and like your current ride I would reccomend replacing your XREAS and add a leveling kit if you don't like the factory rake.
Or
Go with the Toytec 3" Ultimate lift and set the Billsteins to their lowest setting.

It's important to match shocks with springs for optimum performance. In most cases the Billsteins don't pair well with OME. I'm not a valving expert, but I learned that most shocks are matched with springs for a reason.

Good luck...

Thanks Powder for the reply...

I forgot to add that information. It's a 2008 sport 2wd with 125k miles.

I like the idea of the XREAS, but new shocks/springs for the system is way pricier than what I want to do. Plus I have another car that is for my spirited driving.

I thought about the Billie/OME mix, and have seen many do it, but that's something to think about on the ride quality and valving.

The 5100/new stock springs, with front on .85 seems to be leading, but I think would still have some forward rake.

But again thanks for the information will add to list. lol

With only 125,000 on your springs I'd start with 5100's and call it a day. IMHO

Option 1 for sure. It is an excellent setup and is going to give you great handling and damping. Spacers are just a budget option and you will appreciate the extra height because the 4th gen is more low slung than you think. If I could do it again I would have just done option 1 and been very very happy.

So you have a visual. Here is my 2004, 2WD, V8. My XREAS started to leak at 130,000 miles.

Pic 1 - Stock, XREAS shocks with OEM Springs.

Pic 2 - Bilstein 5100s, fronts set at .085 (second from the bottom) and OEM springs. Liked the look but I felt it was too soft. Also, it's like crack, you just want a little more.

Pic 3 - Bilstein 5100s, fronts set at .085 (second from the bottom) and MOOG, FJ 4x4 Springs. So glad I did it and I love the ride.

Now I need new tires and Wheels.

Nice.. Thank you very much for the pics, that's pretty much where I want to be.

So i'm guessing at 120k miles the stock springs should still be good. I know the MOOG rear springs had some issue, but the MOOG fronts do well.

Appreciate it.

I'm really pleased with the Moog springs. I had an issue with the OEM springs. At hard stops I would get the "clunk" more often. The issue seems to have gone away.

Regarding the rear springs I didn't have an issue with the install. Once they were aligned and I lowered the rear they dropped into place. What did freak me out was the left side. When I jacked up the back end i thought for sure I was going to snap the rear brake lines.

I keep seeing the term Moog Springs, but do they have a specific number? I get the OME 884/885s differences, but if I'm just searching for Moog, I don't find much specific info...

Are you looking for product number or coil rates?

Here's a great thread on Coil Rates: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/162125-coil-rates-oem-4runner-oem-fj-moog-others.html

Also, what are your needs? My 4Runner is a 2wd, daily driver. I take it camping and on some very light off-road trails.
