Xreas leaking again

So I took my 4runner in to a local brake shop and they told me 3 of my shocks were leaking. Today I took it to Toyota for the 60k service and told them what the brake shop told me. They looked into it and said 3 of my shocks were indeed leaking.

I already had one replaced at about 37k, and that one was not leaking. So they are going to put 4 new shocks in. I don't drive very hard and do very little off road, if I do its only trail stuff in the desert. These shocks seem like crap to me. Good thing I have the extended warranty. Getting my CV boots replaced (leaking) and a new blower fan(ticking) at no charge. Dealership is going to pay my deductible because I guess they are supposed to change all 4 shocks if one goes bad and they didn't do so when the first one went bad.

Also had a 2002 Tacoma TRD and I somehow blew all 4 bilsteins at 12k.

I had one replaced at 50K. You seem to have very bad luck with this suspension. You bring up a good point though, DO NOT BUY a 4Runner with the X-Reas without buying the platinum warranty!

You can buy this warranty online after your vehicle purchase if you buy new.

Used vehicles-it is my understanding you need to buy warranty at time of vehicle purchase.

Well I got my truck back with 4 new xreas shocks and other components. I now qualify for Toyota's Lifetime Guarantee for my shocks. I see no reason to get the OME lift if Toyota is going to replace my shocks for free from now on.

Thats cool they would take care of it for you.

If that was me I would pull the stuff off and go aftermarket shocks. Maybe a set of FJ springs too.

xreas shocks

dealer is supposed to replace shocks in diagonal configuration if it is xreas system. left front is linked to right rear by hydraulic lines with a mechanical valve in between. r/front linked to l/rear same with another mechanical valve. Look at frame just in front of rear tires, you will see the valve with YAMAHA stamp on it. The manual for shock replacement states to replace as: shock leaking, replace with valve and corresponding diagonal shock.
Shouldnt be a problem to replace all with standard shocks, NO electrical wiring involved.

They only replaced my right front...the one that was leaking. These shocks at 57K are starting to feel a tad "spongy". I tow a 5,000 pound travel trailer about once a month...so they do get a work out. When new they made the vehicle corner quite nice. But now I think they are JUNK!

But I don't think Toyota/The Dealer will replace the rest of them if they are not leaking. Especially looking at the financial headlines for Toyota. What-they had their first loss ever.
