Mate, don't know if it fits or not... somehow when i called rocky mountian off road, i am surprised they couldn't sell me the 03 lift kit... i notice you have a 2003 (revtek 3" lift) with XREAS) , i saw your posts once before with pictures of xreas, but not of your truck lifted... will the 03 kit fit on the 04? what year did the 4th gen's start? 2003? any help would be greatly appreciated... i have to ship my truck out to hawaii in a couple weeks... thanks mate..

The likelihood that any manufacturer/vendor making a lift kit for the XREAS is ZERO. The reason: the installation. You can mess up on so many levels that it's more of a headache for them to say the kit works.

Here's the problem. If you want to lift it, you gotta lift it while the shock is actually still connected to the truck itself. Obviously this poses a concern as it makes it alot more difficult to install the lift than doing it on a workbench.

I've done a xreas lift using the daystar kit and although it works fine (as I've seen revtek kit on a xreas too) the concerns that these vendors have on the installation of the revtek kit is too high that for them it's too much of a liability.

If you really want to lift your truck, just get the non-xreas lift kit and do the installation yourself. I highly doubt any store will be willing to do the install as if they mess up it's on them. (pss.. the xreas syspension is no cheap to fix either).

Btw, don't listen to the guys that says "the spacer lift kit is not designed for the xreas system". The reason is simple. These lift kits are a simple bolt on spacer technology. People have been using spacer lifts on stock equipment for years with no adverse problems. The shock length for a xreas system is the exactly length as the shock for a normal non xreas system. So this means it doesn't matter. Heck even the springs are the same anyway (xreas and non xreas). So that said, there's no way "the spacer kit is not designed for the xreas".

As for the concern on the rear shock. Indeed a longer shock is recommended but you can live w/o the extended shock and still be fine. If over-extending your rear shock is a high concern, then purchase some Limit Straps and install them and you'll be safe.

(keep in mind daystar and revtek both make similar spacers. daystar does not supply a rear shock yet the lift is the same for the rear like revtek. funny how revtek claims it's a no no huh)

The bottom line for them: they don't want to liability.

Good luck

that is why i enjoy this forum...! thanks a ton

ya know guys... i have been talking to revtek and even rocky mountain suspension... and i really enjoy talking more to someone that has wrech experience than, just look up the manual and tell me , nope, it doesn't work...

i went here http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/toyota4_96+.htm

now, what i am looking at is part #431 ... so, from what i gather from you guys, it seems like this is the part that i need to get... and i understand about not cracking open the hydralic line for the shocks... one thing i find funny, is that they don't even reference the XREAS system properly spelled? or am i wrong? and these are the suspension experts????????

from a no kidding perspective of using these kits, which one should i buy, the REVTEK or DAYSTAR ? i need to get the ball rolling on this as time is running out... thanks a million for your help...

on another note.. i went to my toyota dealer and asked them for the wiring diagram for the radio... well, i go to service dept, they tell me go to parts, i go to parts, they tell me go back to service.. then they get on the phone and talk for a bit, i wait paitently, but dumbfounded at this ... they call in a mechanic and i wait some more, then the (fowl language used) looks at me and says, you can't just use a plug adapter... i was boiling red.. i asked for the wiring diagram for a reason... i simply didn't feel like explaining myself for the 5th time, i want to trace the wires and install a thicker , shielded wire to the component speakers and get rid of the dorky , thin wires toyota kindly provided...

this didn't make any sense to them , why i would take a perfectly good radio out and all the wires... i was like, ya know, i am taking a perfectly made toyota and customizing it the good ole american way.... !

god bless toyota, but man, i can't stand some stuff they do... i've owned bout 6 of them... 3 FJ-40's , 2 4runners and even a LJ-71 when i was in japan....

anyway, please let me know about the part number or kit number and where to get it from so i can get this thing lifted... i'll be in hawaii anyway and for the next 3 1/2 years, i WON"T be rock climbing on any trail.... that 's what my FJ-40 is for...

thanks guys...

Daystar:
2.5" Front and Rear
KT09115

Revtek:
can't find this info at the sec... sorry :(

I"m sure others will chime in.

Either one is good. The daystar comes w/ 4 spacers and the Revtek comes w/ 4 spacers and 2 rear shocks (which you'll ebay ofcourse).

I believe the revtek is 3" compared to 2.5" for the daystar.

Either setup will work fine. It sounds like you know the basics on lifting the rig so have fun :)

Good luck!

3in revtech

I also had a couple Q's, I was planning on getting the revtek. I was gonna install it my self. Is it really complicated. I used to do engine swaps for hondas. is there anything special I need to know.

How much did you get for the shocks on ebay.

WHERE IS THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO GET THE REVTEK?????????

If you've ever installed any suspension kits for your honda's then it should be relatively easy.

If you have xreas it'll be abit harder but nothing impossible (just be very careful not to crimp any lines).

the front:
remove swaybar - 2x12mm (i think or 10mm) on eachside.
3 x 14mm bolts - top
17mm bolt - bottom
use stock bottle jack to lower upper a-arm. Once lowered, coil/shock sound pop out relatively easily. might require some muscles here ;)
replace w/ new parts installed (spacer install is easy. follow directions from vendor)

the rear:
17mm bottom shock bolt. once removed, pop bottom shock off
disconnect rear swaybar - 12 or 14mm bolt (don't rem)
pop coil out and add spacer and reinstall.

If you have xreas obviously u gotta use the same shock. if you don't proceed to remove top shock bolt 14mm I think.

Reinstall all parts and you're done.

Pretty easy compared to doing hondas. Honda's require removal of brake bracket lines as well as the lower wishbone part of the suspension. plus the cramp working quarters when working on the rear... pita

Work is done the same way. top to bottom and bottom to top when rebolting.

Daystar prices range around the 250 mark
Revtek prices range around the 450 mark

good luck

one last thing -- if you have xreas, you might be better off going with Daystar, because with the Revtek kit, you are paying also for the longer rear shocks --- which you won't be able to use. If you don't like the fact that Daystar is a bit shorter than Revtek, go to http://nitrousenterprises.com and talk to Anthony or myself.

Goodtimes,

I notice that you don't list either Revtek or Daystar, but Downey Coilovers. What are the advantages/disadvantages to those over the others?

BTW, thanks for all the great information you always give.

To others, 4route's writeup on the Revtek lift is excellent. Use that and you won't have any problems.

Thanks Faeylyn! Coilovers give you more extension/flex, but if someone has XREAS, they can't really use that as a viable option due to the XREAS system connecting directly into the stock shocks. (and you'd need longer shocks to accomodate the coilovers)

:)

Daystar and Revtek make lifts using the spacer technology. Simply put it's a spacer (i.e. washer type technology) that is placed in your suspension to give you more lift.

Downey has a coilover system which uses the coil/shock technology. Simply put it replaces the entire shock and coil (obviously you can't do this w/ a xreas system). The coilover part means that the coil is adjustable in a sense that you can compress the coils to give you more height. This helps alot in that you can lift it at an arbitrary height :) If you add additional weight up front (i.e. bumper/winch/batteries etc etc) your front will sag. Using a coilover you can lift the front back up and you're fine :) Ofcourse you can only lift it so far until you can't crank it up and the coils are pretty much useless so caution is key.

List of companies w/ stuff out or pending:

Spacer Technology (xreas friendly)
Daystar - on sale now!
Revtek - on sale now!
Cornfed - pending

Coil/Shock Technology (non xreas only)
Downey Coilover - on sale now!
King Coilover - pending
Donahoe Coilover - pending
Sway A Way Coilover - pending
OME Coil and Shock (not a coilover setup) - pending
Fabtech Coilover - pending

If I missed someone... oops (I can't keep track of everyone)

ehm ...

Nitrous Enterprises - spacers, coil-overs, or both - pending (but coming soon) (some people are already running complete NE kits ... they just aren't in full/wide production yet)

Thanks for the great explanations!

4route, you mentioned a while ago that Nitrous was coming out with its own lift kit, didn't you? Anyway, someone was coming out with an XREAS lift kit that sounded like it would have definate advantages over the current kits. I thought it was Nitrous and have been checking their web site every so often, but that site is still under construction - just a front page.

Do you happen to have any more news on that? Or was I dreaming?

No, you aren't dreaming ... I'm in charge of the website for the time being and NE is just waiting for a couple of things to happen before they unveil things.

As far as the kits ...

I have to admit, I don't exactly know what stage things are at ... Anthony moved so we've been out of touch for a month or so ... he's settling in though so we've made plans to talk and get things going.

I do know that the kits will include rear shock relocation mounts for those of us with XREAS ... to compensate for our inability to replace the stock shocks with longer ones.

:)

That's all I know at the moment ... very soon I should know more.
