Info on long term Xreas

I have a 2007 4x4 with 126000 Kms (78000 miles) and the Xreas is still in good condition.

The first 5 years/50000 miles the truck had a very easy life, driven in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. Although the traffic is among the worst in North America, Vancouver's roads are among the best/smoothest and the temperature is always very moderate. Truck was never off road. So the Xreas was in great condition.

I purchased the truck at 50000 miles and moved to the Yukon (boarding Alaska) shortly after. I have put almost 30000 miles of "severe conditions" driving on it since moving to the Yukon and the Xreas seems to be holding up well. It has survived the rough roads and highways of the north, decent amount of off roading, lots of rough dirt road miles and driving in extreme low temperatures (below -50F)... Can't say the same for my radiator, froze solid last winter and broke apart in a bunch of places... Got lucky with the engine block because it has a heater.

My biggest Xreas test was hitting a very very big dip in the road at 50 mph on a remote Yukon road last summer, the truck jumped completely off the ground and landed hard bottoming out all four wheels with a thud. Had a decent load in the truck at the time and was lucky to keep control. I actually stopped to check if fluid was pouring out of the shocks/Xreas system.

The truck has never been in a road salt area as Vancouver doesn't really get snow and they don't use salt in the Yukon because it is too cold. For anyone with Xreas in a road salt area I would recommend undercoating, undercoating and more undercoating as the whole system lives in the line of road salt fire. I would guess that would be the number one Xreas killer.

I am impressed with Xreas so far and like the ride quality. I will likely change over to bilstein 5100 when Xreas starts to leak or earlier.

I will update the poll if it dies on me. Knock on wood...

Cheers

06 Sports Edition, 75k. City Vehicle w/easy life XREAS still good, rides well, no issues. Waiting for failure so I can do a shock swap and lift.

213,000 miles and counting

I bought my 2004 V8 Sport new and it's got over 200k on it and still no problem with the Xreas. My mechanic has had to swap several out and keeps an eye on it for me, but so far, no problem.

I sold my 5th gen with XREAS over a year ago and drove something else for a while. I now have a 4th with 100K (miles) and the XREAS shows no signs of leakage. It may not be leaking but it's very bouncy and floaty, clearly shot. Not everyone is deluding themselves, but I bet if a few guys could go back in time and drive one off the lot they would realize their system is cooked.

I understand the concept, certainly. But I would have to drive/ride in a 4th gen with the 5100/FJ combo before I commit to ripping out the X-REAS or replacing the shocks. I drove 200+ miles this weekend and the suspension felt firm, but not teeth-rattling like a BMW with runflats. It was also not floaty and a very nice drive. Note that this is not my DD anymore, so 200 miles in a weekend is a lot of seat time for me.

I have over 207,000 miles on my 03 limited with the factory XREAS still in place, the shocks leaked out in the rears a while back but I guess because I also have RAS my vehicle has been fine with off roading and every day driving. Now my front end sounds like something is rattling something fierce when I hit any bump of any kind so I am in the market to replace the entire system. I am leaning towards Bilstein 5100's and Moog springs as a replacement.

I have an 06 Sport and still going with original set up. Have about 140k on it and I do feel like it's soft and could be replaced. Haven't seen that it leaks anywhere but it's certainly more of a plush feel than I'm used to

06 Sport X-REAS Good to about 220k. By 227k all for shocks had begun leaking and odd tire wear had become apparent. Loved it while it lasted. It felt like a 4 wheel drive sports car with the Cooper LSX Plus tires it had. Now it's ToyTech 112-620 springs front with Adj. 5100's and Super Flex 2.0 w/5100 rear with 265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer A/T3's

So what do you think of it now? Still a 4WD sports car? I remember one of the things I loved about the X-REAS (when I bought it) was that it did handle very car-like.

Without an upper control arm upgrade, it's not quite as good as it turns in a little too easy. Over time I think it has lost performance as the springs and X=REAS aged so I think it's better now than before I swapped. Is it as good as when it was in its prime? Prob. not quite the same at cornering but, better on bumps and stiffness overall without being harsh. Still very good and I'm loving the Cooper AT/3's
