XREAS out, FJ springs + Bilstein 5100s in

I still have the X-REAS in at 100K, no leaks, but the ride is far from 'plush', and there is lot of banging, front and rear, over lousy paved roads. I'm looking forward to switching out shocks to hopefully see some improvement in ride.

To the OP, it looks like the Runner is level, no rake? I like the factory rake, but could stand to loose an inch or so, with a little lift. I also plan to switch to the 265/70-17.

I was in the same boat you are in for the last few years sticking with XREAS + FJ coil and Daystar Spacers. The ride was bumpy and bouncy and in the last few months got worse. I finally check the vehicle and notice a bad leak in the rear shock so I replaced all four XREAS shocks with Bilstein 5100. I set the front shocks on the 3rd slot for 1.85" lift but with FJ coil I am getting around 2.5". Kept the Daystar 3" lift in the back with FJ coil. So far I like the ride. No more "BOAT" ride and bouncy all over the place.

Thanks for the input...

I sure would like to find a rear coil that limited at about 1.5" of lift.

I see what you did there. Lol.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman. Yes, my truck is pretty much level with the 5100+FJ setup. Note that I went with the lowest setting on the 5100s - 0.85". Combined with the FJ springs I get about 1.5" lift total on the front axle. I have the V8 so I would expect more lift over the front w/ a V6 truck. The larger diameter tire (265/70-17) boosts the front lift by about another 0.4" on top of that.

EDIT: Let me be clear on one thing: If you're expecting the ride quality to be improved after changing stock springs + X-REAS out to FJ/5100s, you're going to be disappointed. The 5100s aren't particularly stiff but they ARE stiffer than X-REAS. When combined with the FJ springs and the heavier A/T tires, my truck definitely rides worse than it did when it was stock. The truck no longer has that creamy ride quality where it can just glide over pavement imperfections as if they weren't there. Our trucks don't have a particularly stiff body structure; you can tell this when you close the door and the entire truck resonates. Unibody passenger cars generally don't do this. As a result, the suspension transfers more energy to the body and you can feel it. It's hardly unbearable and it's not really a big deal once you reach highway speeds but it IS a thing. The good news is my truck can still go around corners just fine. It doesn't have much body roll. It's possible my sliders (which add weight down low) contribute to lowering the Cg. It's also possible the fact that I only raised it modestly contributes to lack of body roll as well.
