Xreas to 5100's

For those that have disabled their XREAS and installed Bilstein 5100's, are you glad you did it? Happy with the results? Noticeable improvement?

I have 5100's in a box from a prior 4runner and I'm just hanging on to them in case the Xreas becomes a problem.

Is it worth it to proactively change them out?

Are the 5100's better than XREAS?

My personal opinion is that unless you're looking for the added flex off road, I'd stick with xreas as long as it's in good working condition. I ditched xreas for 5100s and was pleased, but my xreas also had 140k miles at the time so the stock system was very worn.

Thanks. Is XREAS prone to failure? I haven't heard that it is.

I only have 23k on my 07 Sport and don't know if I should sell them or hang on to them just in case. I originally bought them for an 08 SR5.

Failures, in the form of leaking shocks, is very common after 75k + miles. At 23k, I wouldn't consider replacing them unless you're after the benefits off road. depending on how much you drive, it'll probably be several years before you have issues. Up to you if you want to hold on to them.

Many will say they swapped and are very happy, but they're also not coming from a 20k mile suspension. I just don't think it's worth ditching a perfectly good suspension.

I wouldn't bother with it until there's an issue, or you are looking to increase functionality in some way. I think the Xreas was a great system.

I agree. I miss the tighter handling of the xreas, but the 5100's are a good lower cost solution to replace a worn system. If you're looking for a little added off-road ability, a spacer lift might be the way to go for the next 50 to 75,000 miles.

If your looking for lift then hell yea switch it. My xreas was blown so it felt better when changing shocks

I have FJ springs wrapped-up in my cellar for when my 03's XREAS system poops the bed in the future.

Im curious as to what SPECIFIC Bilsteins you guys bought, AS WELL AS any other hardware that you guys bought to complete the switch properly.

Sorry if it seems like im hyjacking...ive wanted to ask this for a while.
