XREAS vs. KDDS on road?

Has anyone ever done a comparison between XREAS and KDSS handling ON ROAD? I suppose the comparison would be pretty subjective but I'm just wondering if there was a noticeable difference in the way each rode and handled. TIA

I did, back to back. IMO, KDSS is better than XREAS. Both are much better than non-KDSS and non-XREAS.

I have a T4R Ltd and love its ride and suspension. I dont care about the slight nose dive and I do not really notice any body roll. Its a smooth drive all around!@

CKON- Love your photohraphy! Especially the picture titled rain! How do I download it and set as desktop background? Am I allowed to?

I have had both .

Xreas on my 06 4x4 v8 Sport = I pulled it off and put (fj springs and shocks on ) and it was a night and day difference in ride and handling . If I knew that sooner i would have pulled it off sooner. I never thought much of it , but it's better than nothing at all .

I now have an 2011 TE 4R with KDSS . I think it is better than Xreas , but still get nose dive and body roll. Not like I did with Xreas though on the 06.

Which one handled nose dive better? I've read that KDSS does nothing for nose dive (but I'm not sure, which is why I'm asking), and X-REAS is supposed to help. This is my first truck so even with X-REAS on the Limited I notice the nose dive and try to adjust my driving style accordingly.

I don't have any body roll complaints, though I did not have an opportunity to test drive a TE.

I don't think either system really helps with nose dive. XREAS ties opposite shocks together with hydraulic lines. KDSS also limits side to side motion. Stiffer springs would help with nose dive. I don't really have a big issue with that on my non-KDSS Trail. Limiting body roll and wandering is more important to me. To me, KDSS did a little better job with this than XREAS, but both were good rides.

XREAS definitely helps with nose dive. In fact, I have very little nose dive or body role. Comparing it to my Tundra, it's a firmer ride overall (side-to-side and front-to-back). But at the end of the day, it's all subjective.

Thanx. If you can ID the pic and the album for me I'll make it available to you. Send me a PM with your email address..

Ya, now that you mention it, I can see how XREAS would help a bit with nose dive.

Personally, I think these 5th Gen 4Runners are just undersprung, meaning they should have had higher spring loads from the factory. SR5's and non-KDSS Trails would have really benefited. Might be a bit harsher over the bumps, but I think the trade-off would have been worth it.

On the stock vehicles the body roll is seriously exacerbated by the tires that come on them from the factory. Putting Nittos on my 2011 TE was like day and night - I am glad I only drove on the stock tires for a day.

Also, Toyota will probably aim for pleasing 80% to 90% of the target customers for a given vehicle. The rest will fix their vehicle to suit their needs anyhow. Most of the T4R.org people would fall into the latter category, I'd think.

I have very little body lean and almost no nose dive. I am very happy with the way it handles. I like it better then my 2008 limited that i had. I never drove the trail with the KDSS but i did drive an Sr5 and thought it sucked.
How are those 285/50/20 tires treating you? Any different that stock?

They seem fine. No problems so far except possibly a drop in fuel mileage.

Can you post a picture of your 285 50 r20 tires? I debating weather I should lift my 2016 Limited 3 inches then getting 17 inch tires or just buying wider tires that are 20"

Check the Dates..... Necro Thread but props for searching

I had a 13 limited with xreas for the better part of 3 years. The limited handled very well on road at speed - minor roll and nose dive. I moved to a 16 trail with KDSS and must say I like the KDSS ride far better. Some of it may be personal preference as I feel the trail is a more forgiving suspension (especially around town at 10-40 mph). Limited was a firm solid feel, not harsh but less plush than the trail. Other things to consider involve lifting - Each system has some challenges to overcome there... Bottom line is drive em both back to back if possible.

We have an 04 sport V8 and an 04 GX470 both have the original suspension. And are in excellent condition. The the XREAS (sport) has about 194k the GX (KDSS) has about 125k. Where we live is a test of any suspension. Neither has noticeably objectionable nose dive. I think the GX (KDSS) the more comfortable ride on both smooth and challenging surfaces.
The one thing I really like about the XREAS suspension is it's ability to help stabilize the vehicle in a high speed involuntary jerk of the steering wheel such as one might experience in response to on coming traffic drifting into your lane or that deer. I think it might have saved me once. I can't speak to how the KDSS system would respond to such a situation.
