6 months ago I collided with another vehicle and did quite a bit of damage to the front driver side bumper/fender/wheel area. Paid cash to have it repaired cheap and ran into a problem when picked it up from the body shop. Here's a summary with questions following.
'03 2WD Sport 4-Runner Airbags did not go off in accident
Test drove vehicle and it would not accelerate past about 15 mph and every light came on in the dash.
Took it back and they reset everything on the vehicle that same afternoon.
The ability to accelerate returned but the VSC TRAC/TRAC OFF/Check engine lights came on after going a few blocks. Nothing seemed wrong with how it was driving but the computer was unhappy. Took it back again. This all occurred in a 1 hour period.
Body shop owner took it down the street to guy that had the diagnostic decoder and he said there was something wrong with the front driver side wheel XREAS or VSC system. The mechanic said he used to work at a toyota dealership and the computer needed to be reset by doing a bunch of figure 8's in a parking lot. Q1: Anyone heard of this?
From what I can tell of the XReas system, it's not connected to the vehicle's computer. Q2: Would any of these lights come on if the XReas lost pressure or wasn't functioning correctly?
Q3: Are there any electronic relays attached to the front driver side wheel that could have been damaged or need to be reset? I unplugged and replugged the ABS sensor on the wheel and the above warning lights came on again after driving a few miles. This is the only sensor I'm aware of that could be malfunctioning.
Q4: Is there only one ABS control unit on the driver side for the entire vehicle or is there another on the passenger side?
Any suggestions/questions/etc are welcome. Thanks!
